Rachel flew out to California this afternoon, to San Jose where the Steinbeck Center is honoring her with a Steinbeck Award. Even though this is a sold-out ticketed event, the Steinbeck folks were nice enough to share a live stream with us.
The event is scheduled to get started at 7:30 p.m. California time, so 10:30 p.m. ET, and run an hour and a half. I'm not sure what the format is. I get the impression it's an interview with Rachel.
If you miss the live webcast, we're going to try to take the recording of this event and upload it to the msnbc.com video server. That'll take a couple of days to turn around, so keep an eye out.
UPDATE: Find the on-demand clips here!

Congratulations, Rachel!!
For all my disagreement with policy, opinion, interpretation, and the like here, I have no doubt that Ms. Maddow is a genuine individual with a deep compassion for others, especially those who find themselves marginalized.
I did not know of the Steinbeck award but followed the link and read of its origin and purpose. Congratulations, Rachel.
I am sure, too, that she will credit TRMS staff, and rightfully, so. Congratulations to you, too!
RobDon, That was a very gracious response. Nicely put.

Golly. I'll be watching. This Maddow person sounds like a real up 'n' comer. ;)
Gee I should think it would be chicken & peas and then a talk by Rachel. Steinbeck award is a pretty big deal. She has scored multiple "firsts" by winning it and I have been curious why TRMS & the Blog have been so silent about it since it was announced.
The Steinbeck Award is a big deal... Rachel is truly one in a million and a national resource beyond compare. She encourages her audience to be better people and we are so lucky to have her in our lives. We are all blessed, to paraphrase his son, Mr. Thomas Steinbeck.
East Bay
Wait is this going to be all audio and no visual?
Nevermind posted too soon- my bad
Well deserved, Rachel!!
OK, I'm ticked off at Maddow's crack research team....If you PLEASE, the Center is located in SALINAS CA...the home town of both Steinbeck and myself....I mean, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....

You don't have to be ticked at the whole team, just me. :)
I took it from this:
The Martha Heasley Cox Center for Steinbeck Studies
Room 590, Martin Luther King, Jr. Library
San Jose State University, San Jose, CA 95192-0202
(And the name of the university of course.)
But the good news is that this event is at the Morris Daley Auditorium, which is right on the main campus in San Jose, so at least I got the Maddow location correct.
I'll fix that sentence though. Thanks.
Oh. Shoot. Now I have to be nice. Darnit.
For the record, Will and Mike, I assure you both that the Steinbeck Center IS in fact right here in downtown San Jose, on the San Jose State University campus, a couple hundred yards from Morris Daley Auditorium, where I attend, and where we just enjoyed watching here receive it.
Sorry, meant to include the link: http://as.sjsu.edu/steinbeck/
This is the largest research archive collection, anywhere. Not to take away from the Salinas center, which I'm sure is lovely! :)
As a CA native, I've gotten used to folks messing up our geography. I usually chalk it up to too big a state, and umm...map shortages? :-) Peace, I'm sure it was an intentional slight. Although, now I really miss my home state...:-(
congratulations Rachel!!! loved Thomas Steinbeck's columnin SF Chronicle!!!
GO RACHEL!!!!! Proud of you and all the hard work you do for women and fairness. Thank for your smart and informed and humorous contributions towards worthy news...
From someone on the other side of the world, may I say that Rachel Maddow is one of the best things to come out of the U.S. in many years. Congratulations, you deserve this award, I look forward to keeping informed for many years to come.
I can't get it to play. :-( Not happy.
Well, I missed the first 20 minutes. I guess the ol XP machine wasn't up to it (bigger screen), but the Win7 laptop played it flawlessly (lesson learned). Well done Rachel, I'm so happy for you! You make us all proud! :-)
P.S. Can't wait until it's posted here to get to see the first 20 minutes!

This is a great award and you deserve it! Keep telling the Truth and calling out people that are wrong.
This is so great, Rachel really does deserve it, and she's so interesting no matter what she's talking about.
Regardless of the location - Congratulations Rachel, this is so deserved!
Congratulations, The Steinbeck Award! That's fantastic! I don't think John Steinbeck even got that one! Well done.
Congratulations Rachel! And thank you for your continued works!

Congratulations, Rachel. |=)
Oh I hope this will be available after, my feed keeps stalling.
That's the plan. It's going to be a pretty huge file to deal with though. If we can figure out how to process it we'll have it up here this week.
Will, this was just a WONDERFUL event! So glad to have caught (and tweeted) it on the livestream. There are some just classic bits in there, so we will definitely want to replay the video. It just went by so fast, some wonderful zingers.
It was just like an extra #Maddow show on the weekend!
Thanks Will. And the bigger the better!
