While going through some links in preparation for next month's release of Drift, I came upon this clip of Rachel's interview with Slate's Jacob Weisberg in which she talks about the book's themes and how the U.S. can reintegrate the military with the population at large.

The book sounds fascinating and I can't wait for my already-ordered copy to arrive in the mail. Meanwhile, Rachel, please ask your publisher to add someplace around the Twin Cities as a stop on the book tour. My friends alone would fill up a hall to hear you speak.
I can't agree with this statement enough! Milwaukee's awesome, but it's too far away!
Judging from the WP article, I like Maddow in print so far. Her mind is more fleshed out, which is equally if not more appealing that TV. Congrats.
I'm a blue speck in red (neck) SC. Ex-Navy here .... Yes yes Ms Maddow! Your aim is sharp (spot on) we should be slower to act and more certain of our intent (as a nation) so we don't risk loosing focus as time goes on. Waging war is more like Vietnam or Afghanistan (years and years) vs. a quick action like interdicting pirates in the Indian Ocean or striking Osama B. (which didn't happen in a vacuum). Just like "Politics" our "Wars" are extremely corruptible. Follow the $$$ ..... find the ?sin?.
Keep it up
This Weisberg interview was excellent...all 4 parts! I, too, anxiously await my pre-ordered copy's arrival in March. Just noticed that I missed Rachel on Andrea Mitchell at 1. Darn!
One way to make going to war more painful would be to push the US Army mostly down into the guard and reserve. We wouldn't be calling on exactly the same people to make half a dozen deployments overseas.
The GOP would hate it, because it would reduce the number of full time Federal employees in favor of private sector workers who are only called up every so often.
