I'm afraid Michael Crichton knows something we don't.
Excavated giant ant colony will BLOW YOUR MIND. Who else is now afraid that ants might take over the world? (Full documentary here.)
Neuroscientists can HEAR what word you're thinking of.
Pythons lurking in the Everglades. Snakes gone wild indeed.
Male spiders will literally give up their junk to procreate.
Boy in China born with NIGHT VISON.
If any/all of that scared the bleep out of you, listening to these whale songs will make it all better.
What do coral reefs, crochet, and hyperbolic geometry have in common? A LOT.
5th grader invents new molecule in class and gets co-author credit. What were you doing when you were 10?
Ever wanted to go to SpaceCamp? Now you can, from the comfort of your cubicle.
SuperEarth discovered only 22 light years away and in the habitable zone of its star. Any bets on when Newt proposes a mission there?
Twinkle, twinkle, little star. WTF?
Go forth and geek.

-I'm afraid Michael Crichton knows something we don't.
In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. . . .
and it's name is Sharron Angle!
Am I the only one disturbed that they destroyed an entire colony of ants to examine its structure?
The nano quadrotors are really creepy. I keep picturing a fleet of them under the control of someone like NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and it gives me cold sweats.
On the other hand, the "listen to my brain" bit is fascinating.
Squee! This is my favorite segment, and thanks for all the wonderful goodies. Also, I very much love the Ted Talks.
...I always wanted to go to space camp...
I know something you apparently don't- Crichton died in 2008. How's that for geekiness?
Oops, somehow that got past me! I guess it should read he "knew."
Instead of "Decomposed." Think about it this, way:
He was disassembled by microscopic machines and reassembled into a different configuration.
piece by piece.
You may shudder now.
I can imagine all of the geeks who are going to their search engines and entering nano quadrotors to see where they can get one. (I did.)
Who do you imagine is funding the nano quadrotors project?
This is real cool.
The nano quadrotors are a nice innovative way of using current technology, although I would not call them nano since nano means 1000 times smaller than micrometer and a million times smaller than a millimeter. I would call them miniquad drones. This way I would not be deceiving people with the name nano. To me this type of naming makes ignorant people not understand what scale nano really is. I mean really, your eyes cannot even see something nano sized. The best that a human can see (resolve) with their eyes is 1 micron which is 1000 times bigger than 1 nanometer. This has to do with the wavelength of light and any scientist knows this. A light microscope with a 1000x magnification can only resolve 1 micron clearly because of the wavelength of visible light. You can see smaller in a light microscope, but it cannot be resolved, in other words it is blurry. That is why we use scanning electron microscopes to look at nano sized objects, but even an SEM has difficulty with objects around 1 nanometer or less.
So please do not use the word nano unless you are talking about something smaller than 500 nanometers or 1/2 a micron as a marketing tool because people like me laugh at you when we see or hear this. Ignorance is bliss right? Well it is ignorance that has brought the US down and it is ignorance that causes most of the problems in this world.
Ignorance in Religion= religious people are ignorant of science
Ignorance in science= people that do not know science are plain ignorant
Ignorance in Math= same as ignorance in science, but if you do not know math, you cannot think logically, ie; politicians
Politicians (of today) = total ignorance and worse, no morals, common sense, etc..
So to all of you marketeers out there, please do not use the peoples ignorance to your advantage, teach them instead.
Although, I commend you on the engineering of the miniquad drones. Put a small camera on that and I would buy one to use to monitor (not spying, because spying implies trying to steal something) my delinquent step-children and make sure they are doing what they were told to do. Put small electromagnets on it so I could attach to a nail or screw in a wall and be a fly on the wall, literally. Make it in different colors so it could be camouflaged. Most important, make it in the USA, I will not buy one if it is made in ANY other country.
I tried to add an image of an SEM showing nanoparticles so you can see the scale.
