As my idle hands click along...I had an itch and came across this
On July 30, 1956 a law was passed stating that "the national motto of the United States is hereby declared to be 'In God we trust'." (70 Stat. 732. 36 U.S. Code 186). The House Judiciary Committee recognized that the phrase E Pluribus Unum had also received wide usage in the United States, and the joint resolution did not repeal or prohibit its use as a national motto. In 1963 the Department of State took the following position: "'In God we trust'" is the motto of the United States. It seems to the Department, nevertheless, that there is ample basis both in history and in law for calling 'E Pluribus Unum' a motto of the United States." The Congress has used both.
And... Finally, the motto does not create an intimate relationship of the type that suggests unconstitutional entanglement of church and state. O'Hair, 462 F. Supp. at 20. "After making [inquiries], we find that a reasonable observer, aware of the purpose, context, and history of the phrase "In God we trust," would not consider its use or its reproduction on U.S. currency to be an endorsement of religion. (Gaylor vs USA, 10th Cir. 1996) from US Scouting Service
There is a flaw in the courts opinion though. Whenever the word god is capitalized it does indeed represent a single religion. After all it was the "Christian" church that took it upon itself to use the generic term god as the name of their god. It was of course intended to make all references of god seem to point to their god.Or maybe they lacked the imagination to give him a name?
God is not only the God of Christians. He is also the God of the Jewish people, the Muslim people and (in my humble opinion) the diety of many peoples calling Him by the name in their language. God is the deity in the English language. Jehovah in the Jewish language. Allah in the Arabic. All the same deity, just a different language. Perhaps the motto should be "In a Higher Power we trust", but that would still be the deity of most religious and secular beliefs.
As I said, this is only my opinion.
Not being Jewish I guess I have to accept your ...wait...
The numerous titles for God have been a source of debate among biblical scholars. YHWH is the only proper name of God in the Tanakh in the sense of a personal name.[citation needed] Words such as Elohim (god, or authority), El (mighty one), El Shaddai (almighty), Adonai (master), Elyon (most high), Avinu (our father), are not names but titles, highlighting different aspects of YHWH and the various roles of God.
Again it seems God capitalized is the Christian idea of such "higher power".
Then there are the atheists ,are they supposed to trust in god?
Not a big deal though since putting "in God we trust" on filthy lucre is hardly a christian act.
Of course gram actually made my case better than I did.
They say it is unfair to put Mitt Romney as a Corporate Rapist. And I say you are wrong when Mitt Romney is just a arrogant rich boy who wants to be President because his Daddy said so. Well let me tell you in those days companies like Bain Capital were not only raping struggling companies. These Corporate Rapists were doing it to the profitable ones too. When my company got taken over which was profitable, they stripped our pensions and everything else just to get their way and make massive wealth off the backs of the workers. It was like gosh wow I can hardly wait to retire now on a $24 a month annuity and I just don't know where to spend it first. I am sure I will be plenty comfortable in my retirement years on that $24 a month. And now they want to basically destroy Social Security, Medicare and Medicad, wow thank goodness I get my $24 a month that should get me through those aging years. I don't even have health insurance now who can really afford it, but wait till I get my $24 a month that'll hopefully get me health insurance than.
I do have to add one other thing. These Corporate Rapist never did spare any expense either that is why they did the pension rape as an annuity so it would be less costly to their back pockets.
You had better watch out too now, because the corrupt ones do want to completely control the internet now so you are limited to what truth you are allowed to hear or the utter lies they want to feed to you.
All of these candidates are goof offs who pander to the far right zealots and tea partiers. How could any woman or independent voter not vote for Obama ,if only to keep one of these nut jobs from getting elected? Also how could any person not want to rid Congress of obstructionists who would rather bow to Nordquist and the moneyed sponsors than try to solve our problems?
They rant about illegals to gain support yet Obama has deported more illegals than Bush did and the influx has dropped. They talk about jobs but then turn around and claim that anyone could get one if they wanted to-they just prefer being on the dole?, they ...oh fiddlesticks we all see how crazy they are but we fail to see where all the crazier people who actually vote for them come from.
Paul, you are soooo right!!!! Thank you for expressing it so well.
Rachel, nice job covering your @$$ by continuing to call the anti-Hunstman Manchurian Candidate video an "advertisement" even though it seems to be just a single homemade Youtube video created by one person. The idiotic media circus regarding this "ad" should go down in history as one of the most heinous acts of journalistic malfeasance of this election cycle.
