I don't now how many people remember this given the date it happened, but the story of the drone crash in Iran kind of reminds me of the US plane that crashed in China in 2001. There are some obvious differences, not the least of which is that there were American lives at stake (the crew of the plane) in the 2001 incident, but the resulting "oh crap, they have our spy gear" feeling is similar, as is the awkward follow-up (here's the 2001 apology from the Bush administration).
You know what the US drone in Iran story reminds me of?

My first impressions of this drone crash in Iran was...really? Seriously? Then I saw the pictures that Iran released of this crashed plane and I was like...really? Seriously? Wow, those drones a made sturdier than planes that carry people. I mean, a couple cracks in the surface of the plane.
I sometimes am an eternal optimist, but I cannot help thinking (wishful maybe) that this drone is a plant to make Iran think and display something that they really don't have. Time will tell I guess...
DoD may have messed up by not including dual decapitation self-destruct charges in the design, but that would not be my biggest concern.
Something knocked it out of the air.
Most likely hit by a new kind of surface to air missile.
The idea that Iran has a previously unknown type of missile is something far more disturbing than a lost spy gadget. Even more disturbing that this vehicle most likely used stealth technology.
That could make military invasion impossible until the threat is evaluated.
I'm glad the current president is not a gunslinger.
Awkward.
and in a way how do we know that the drone was not send in just to evaluated that said missile?
Shoot dude I left my shorts under your wife's bed! Could you go get them for me?
Stupid people! If they had the drones made in China and put Chinese markings on them Iran might beg us to come in!
