Sue Thorn, an organizer for the Obama '08 campaign, wants to represent West Virginia in the U.S. Congress, from a seat won by the Republicans last year. For now, she's running for the Democratic nomination, and she's looking a lot like another rookie candidate with Obama ties. From Ms. Thorn's website:
Former West Virginia Congressman Harley Staggers, Jr. is enthused about Thorn's congressional race. "I have been watching coverage of Elizabeth Warren's Senate campaign in Massachusetts and when I first talked with Sue, I saw the same traits in her that I saw in Warren. Both are from working class families and understand the struggles facing families throughout the country. I think people are excited to support a real Democrat who will fight for working people," stated Staggers.
Ms. Thorn makes her official announcement on Wednesday. Back story here.

I wish her well, West Virginia needs congressional representation for interests other than the coal operators and right-to-lifers.
Mr. Staggers is so very right with his comparison. I know Sue Thorn...she speaks with the experience that only comes from being of and from the working middle class of West Virginia, and she does not back down from speaking the truth. This truly grass-roots campaign is rolling like wildfire through the hills of WV
Sue Thorn looks like a great candidate with a grass-roots sensibility. I hope she does well; if she's anything like Elizabeth Warren, West Virginia needs her leadership. I reside in the 2nd District and our Congresswoman, Shelley Moore Capito (R), has worked diligently for our local housing industry. She and her office seem to understand, if not vocalize LOUDLY, that our housing and financial system is a mess. Maybe Ms. Thorn and Congresswoman Capito can join in the fight with Ms. Warren.
Glad to have Sue running for Congress, but Shelly Capito needs to go along with McKinley, both have continued to vote against Medicare and big corporations. Go Sue

Has anyone told you how much we missed your status updates and blog posts over the weekend? It was too dratted quiet around here.
Sue is one of us. We need someone to represent the people in WV01 who knows what life is like for everyday working folks and will work to make life better for ALL of us...Not just corporations. Sue Thorn is that candidate.

ive met sue on several ocasions. and i can say this... she IS what wv needs right now. she knows what life is like for the majority of all of us and she'll fight for what she belives is best for her home land :)
WV politics have long been owned and operated by extraction industries and political families. Sue Thorn's candidacy represents a significant break from the way things have always been done in WV as well as the unique opportunity for a woman to represent the 1st Congressional District.
Sue Thorn is not a career politician, a millionaire or a member of a politically connected family. She is not running because it is her turn, she is running because it is the People's turn to be represented.
Sue Thorn is the REAL DEAL. I have worked with Sue for the past three years. I have never met a rarder working person in my life. Working with her in Organizing For America I saw a fire in her eyes to do what ever needed to be done to help the Middle Class working families here in WV. I suport Sue and will work every single hour of a day to see her elected in 2012. She and Elizabeth Warren are what this Country needs to move forward and make our Nation strong again for all people.
