Cocktail Moment on Cinco de Mayo?
Happy birthday to the little wolff. Looking forward to the show, or should I say leaning forward.
I don't know where else to share this but:
MSNBC tried to kill me today! There I was painting a ceiling with MSNBC on in the backround and then this guy says: "What a week, the death of the birthers and the birth of the deathers" I nearly died laughing as it caused me to fall off an 8' ladder. I expect humour from TRMS so I prepare but not in the middle of the afternoon!
Absolutely, it's great that the US Administration is abandoning the Troops on the ground in numbers tragedies. Play back Bin Ladin's manifesto where it says he'll have two guys wave an Al Quaeda flag and the US will throw treasure and lives away responding and gain nothing from the effort. He said it. not me. And he picked his opponents and sent out twenty guys to provoke them - ruthlessly - and the Bush era fools did exactly what he intended.
Hi Rachel -
A quick thought about something you said earlier: it was also said last night by Jon Steward on The Daily Show; namely, it was this
"O_ama vs. O_ama" Problem
You know, the FBI's official citation of Bin Laden was "USAMA" Bin Laden - pronounced like "Ooo-sama" or "You-sama," but also known as "UBL" - so maybe we should all start adopting this pronunciation, and we might be able to put an end to the unintentional, but loaded with bad connotations, that try to equake the President with that other guy.
Oh poo -
That was Jon Stewart, of course - I'm supposed to be getting cataract surgery soon, and believe me, this sometimes gets really frustrasting.
So enough with Pakistan!! What in the world is going on in with Japan and Libya ?!!!!!!! No one is talking about them...
Or the US congress
Hi Rachel,
I am a big fan of your show! This is the second time I've heard you mention Nyack, as the equivalent to where Bin Laden was found. Nyack is a great town! But we're 19 miles from the GW Bridge, and not that close to West Point - which is about 40 minutes away. Have a great night, from Nyack NY!
Love your show, One question... So, they defund ACORN over a "pimp and a tute" but can't/won't defund a country that harbored the world's most notorious war criminal in our generation?!
Unless they were being paid to babysit. The war on Terror and hunt for Bin Laden has been a primary funding source for the Republican nation building efforts in Afganistan and Iraq. For the Democrats it's been a reason to fund the build-up homeland security (NSA, TSA, full body scans, etc.). I have no proof, but since he is dead, they should declare mission accomplished (really this time) pull-out and defund all-three.
Hey, you mentioned on the show tonight that there's not a list of what the White House (and Obama) has done so far that they promised they would. I wonder if you know about this website: http://wtfhasobamadonesofar.com/ I find it pretty informative myself.
Hey Irish -
Erin Go Bragh to you, and you've got me laughing my a-- off, too!
Glenn,
It all worked out good, I survived and I've got beer money for the weekend. RESULT! Just waiting for TRMS on the website and I'll be happy.
(I was gonna sign off with some Irish, but without the fada's it's not worth it!)
This is so entertaining to watch. The republicans vote against ending tax breaks to big oil, republicans want offshore drilling.. blah blah blah...
When are you cadets that watch this garbage going to understand THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEMOCRAT AND REPUBLICAN!!!
Maddow and all MSM are feeding a narrative to keep you from knowing that both parties serve the same interests bent on destroying your lives.
Join the resistance,
Eric - I truly hope that you are just "blowing smoke up our togas" and don't seriously believe the BS you are espousing!
Hey Rachel:
Your recent shows about the costs of war and the growing industries of war have represented the epitome of how true journalism can guide and protect the citizens of a democracy. Thank you for being a precious member of our endangered "Fourth Estate".
You have probably mentioned this at some point, but I don't think in the last week on the show:
There are a lot of reasons NOT to celebrate someone's death, though I understand why many might with UBL. Just one of those reasons is that, to a great extent, the US intelligence community helped teach that charismatic rich kid to be a cunning resistance fighter that can bleed a super power dry.
UBL's death gives closure and celebration to many, but it should also be a sobering lesson in international etiquette. As a government, as a people, will we learn?
Dear Rachel:
I adore you, but like most liberal pundits you miscalculated on who the budget ceiling brinkmanship was going to benefit. An "all or bust" radical right will always beat a compromising centrist President, especially under time constraints.
I hope progressives have ALL learned this lesson!
At the time, I knew the white flag prop was clearly wishful thinking, but don't throw it away. If Wisconsin doesn't trigger a national populist uprising, we will need it for us!
Florida Republicans are doing the same anti-abortion, anti-woman measures that the US House of Representatives are doing, and their anti-voter laws are just the tip of the iceberg. Those laws passed the legislature by an overwhelming GOP majority, as did the revocation of civil rights for released prisoners, massive cuts to education, and massive money designated to pork barrel projects - with only a few Democrats receiving local funds, and the rest of the billions going to Republican leaders in the state legislature. They are just as toxic and just as misleading except these are laws that were vetoed by the previous Governor (Charlie Christ) yet they have been brought back to life this legislative session. These are Republicans that ran on a platform of "bringing jobs to Florida" and are instead legislating a woman's uterus. This is the same legislature that censured a state representative who told his constituents to incorporate her uterus because the Florida legislature cared more about tax breaks for the wealthy. This is the first legislative session since they were elected into office in 2010. There are 2 times as many registered Democratic voters as there are Republican voters, 63% voted to enact anti-gerrymandering laws and just as many are in support of the Affordable Health Care legislation. The Republican legislature is using Florida tax-payer money to sure the Federal government for implementing the new health care reform law for "over-reaching" into issues that are between a patient and her doctor yet they are going above and beyond to restrict women's access to basic health care (4 bills are awaiting Rick Scott's signature). This is despite the fact that they are CUTTING public sector jobs, denied the state high speed rail grants (which would have brought in over 20 thousand new jobs), and are cutting state employee's pay by over 3%. Florida is attacking public workers AND women's rights, and no one is paying attention.
Abortion Trumps Job Creation During
Legislative Session
Rachel and Bill are genii. There I said it. Especially, the last two stories on GOP "taking out the garbage" during the huge bin Laden story. OK, the whole hour is genius now. I'm blown away. Sorry :)
I like these reports, Bill, because now I'm going to remember to post the Pakistan story on my wall. Thx, buddy. You're right about the President's big day. I think this is somehow a game changer even tho I can't see the whole thing yet emerging. Seems like it might end up being a quick exit from Afghanistan or something like that. Hopefully.
a little help on your accessment on the G M bailout Rachel '
the March 16 Congressional Oversight report, estimates taxpayers will be out of $25 billion, during its bankruptcy, GM got a $45 billion tax break and a February piece on AutoBlog also confirms that GM will also get a $14 billion dollar domestic tax break.
That adds up to $84B.
yes they made 3 billion but they have a long way to go..
on the volt their sales are plummeting only 281 sold...down 20% since jan...
hardly a success.. im sure you will correct this info tommorrow night
Hi Rachel-- Your show ended my 50+ years of purposeful political ignore-ance... so now I watch...and think...and debate....and consider...but tonight your story of the Pakistani lobbyists and the billions of our tax dollars given to that country to try to buy their pseudo- friendship-- was set against my day at work-- where I stood with my fellow teachers-- filling our little school office-- to be there in support of our co-workers who were brought in one-by-one to be told they were officially losing their jobs as of June 5th. It was heartbreaking...devastating... horrible!! Our school district here in Sonoma County CA-- in order to stay solvent next year-- will be putting 30-35 children in classrooms K-5. Our K-3 class sizes of 20 is the last thing to go-- over the past 6 years--everything else has already gone--music, art, PE, counselors, computers, early intervention reading programs, field trips, classroom supply budgets are now $75 for the year... you name it...it is already gone and finally, today, some amazing teachers....but billions of tax dollars can go...must go according to our supposed representational gov. to Pakistan???? How does this make sense??? Unlike Medicare-- which just survived a direct attack-- public education is being slowly, painfully, starved to death. The same forces are at work--the end of something that starts with the word "public" is the goal. It is down on the mat getting the final count and will die-- to be replaced by a voucher system...privatized like our health care so that someday a generation that is trying to figure out how to pay for their kids' school- will look back and wonder about that free-- available to all --historical memory called the local, neighborhood public school.... but we had the money to subsidize oil companies and fill the coffers of strangers around the world....none of it makes sense... how/why are we letting this happen? I've never even been on a blog...much less posted on one. TRMS has changed my life!
Coming from a family of teachers, the choking of public education is one of the highest crimes in the land. Often, the most important stories happen in such a slow, insidious way, that they fall below the media radar. Bodies coming home every day from oversees and children falling victim to the poverty of public education, are two of those stories.
Is the ExxonMobil ad some kind of prank on Rachel?
Worst Sheriff Ever: Part 2?
Dear Rachel:
Please consider the following topic for your investigative reporter talents: computer voting machines. The next Presidential election will, to a great degree, depend on the electronic transmission of votes with no method of verification in a surprising number of states.
Our President has a chance to force computer voting to have paper trail backup but, like other critical issues which threaten to erode democracy at its core, we could use a bit of a "Fourth Estate" push.
Once you get into this story you might find it suspicious that certain states are moving forward on computer voting, certain manufacturers have been favored, and certain states/districts have already had some "controversial results" from there use.
Just your cup of tea!
So many stories, so little time...
Have you ever thought that the over-the-top domination of our beloved MSNBC political shows by the "Republican Clown Show" was excessive? Have you ever thought that such enormous, very early coverage of the presidential race actually does us a disservice while the country faces so many important challenges? For example, what happened to the precious minutes dedicated to Occupy movement updates from around the country?
I adore Rachel, Ed, and Lawrence but if you think liberal media pundits are immune from corporate censorship and bias, think again. A few days ago a grotesque merger was green lighted by the FCC that will threaten consumers, journalism, and democracy on many fronts.
Commissioner Michael J. Copps, the only dissenting opinion on the FCC board said this deal is, "damaging and potentially dangerous", "grievously fails the public interest", and "erodes diversity, localism and competition--the three essential pillars of the public interest standard mandated by law." In other words the FCC, and the Department of Justice who first green lighted the merger, caved in to big (no make that "huge") business again!
Wonder why you heard little or nothing about this from out favorite liberal media sources? Could it have something to do with the fact that the merger was between Comcast and NBC Universal? Perhaps, the silence by itself, is a bad sign for what's left of "unbiased" investigative journalism. Yikes!
