Now that skilled fundraiser Newt Gingrich has set up his semi-exploratory, help-me-make-up-my-mind-to-run-for-President fund (operators are standing by!), there is news today that he is seeking some shine from up on high. Mr. Gingrich knows his less-than-holy personal history (patriotic or not) may have the Christian right raising a side-eye at him in 2012, but he might get points for showing up on the schedule for a well-known pastor.
No, not Reverend Jeremiah Wright. You kidders. This isn't Carl Paladino-esque performance art.

Later this month, [Pastor John Hagee will] host former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a 2012 aspirant, at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio. For the candidate and the pastor, the summit is a chance for two controversial figures to help each other back into the spotlight—though a Hagee spokesman says the pastor has no plans to endorse Gingrich.
Mr. Hagee's name should ring a bell. He is the Texas megachurch pastor that, as Mother Jones reminds us today, senator John McCain couldn't escape fast enough in 2008 after news of his endorsement brought forth revelations (natch) that Hagee blamed gays for Hurricane Katrina and called Catholicism a "false cult" and a contributor to Hitler's anti-Semitism.
What candidate who actually wants to win seeks this guy out?

As for Hagee, he is a vile, racist beast. Several years ago, I worked part time in a call center that handled calls for christian televangelists, and they had tvs mounted around the center that continuously broadcast the programs from people like Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer and John Hagee. Even then, when I didn't know who he was at first, he struck me as one of the most racist, mean-spirited folks that were on the tube.

Both of them are dumb as a bag of hammers, but from what I have seen and heard, Palin has Bachmann beat hands down when it comes to vindictiveness and spitefulness, so I would expect that the majority of the name-calling and mudslinging would come from the Palin camp.

this is in contrast to Chrissi O'Donnell - up to this point - who, not being well-heeled if not rich already, was both being a candidate as a job and to get settled and enact her agenda in winning.
