Jamil Smith spots this on the YouTubes. If you've got one of those standing desk things, you might consider lowering it and sitting down before you press play.

Stomaching this drivel wasn't easy...
Ha! I was thinking on those same lines. I was laughing so hard I almost threw up. As a resident of the state of Minnesota and a progressive Democrat I can say, living 8 years with tpaw as gov wasn't easy. I work in the social services field, his favorite thing to cut. Am wondering who that man in the video is?
It is a damn shame that politicians no longer have to stand for anything. They just have to have a really good media campaign.
If only someone had saved the comments before they took them down, they were funny! Oh wait:
THEY DID SAVE THEM!!!
azsky13, you had Jesse Ventura as governor and Al Frankin as a senator and you complain about Pawlenty? ROTFLMAO!!!!
I had to deal with him for 8 years here in Minnesota please go away already we dont even want you to be president
does he have a sexy video tape so we can all admire his "manliness"?
Is this Pawlenty's Dukakis moment? Who'd he get to direct? Michael Bay?
Ridiculous.
Michael Bay, exactly! you beat me to it. Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Transformers, Pawlenty..........
I don't know. The patriotgasm certainly seems Michael Bay-like. But the music and the mythology remind me a lot more of something by Chris Nolan... (I'm sure there's a better musical clip, but internet is acting up, and this is still a fairly good match, I think...)
Nah, Michael Bay would have more fire and explosions ;)
Was thinking the same thing....
TPaw...in a Hans Zimmer moment...
"Deception"...instead of "Inception"
Up until the end, I thought it was another of those MSNBC "Lean Forward" commercials.
ah, knew someone was going to beat me too it. yes. this.
So did I!
Woohoo!! Gave me a case of the Vapors!
All the dramatic music in the world won't make you any less boring, Pawlenty...
Very impressive! It's like Tom Clancy and Michael Bay had a baby...and it was this ad.
Oh, the drama.
*rolls eyes*
A sad commentary on who they think they are.
Seriously Tim?
Spare me.
Are we sure this wasn't produced by the Onion News Network?
maybe the Colbert staff had something to do with it.
Don't be fooled by a fancy speech written by a speech writer. I live in Minnesota where Tim Pawlenty was the Governor for the last eight years. He talks the Republican talk (less government, less spending) and walks the Republican walk (spent money, left the state with a 6 billion dollar deficit) He turned down the government stimulus money for Medicare. He is nothing more than another Republican puppet.
Got the same situation down here in Texas w/Rick (Gov. Goodhair) Perry and his cronies...Education is getting a major hit. Dems had some awesome candidates to choose from this past Nov., but too many apparently misguided people voted a straight Rep ticket...they seem to have blinders on.
If meaningless platitudes were pennies, this video could solve every budget crisis.
If only this were so.
Very impressive! It's like Michael Bay and Tom Clancy had a baby...and that baby was this ad.
Needs more explosions and robots that transform into things.
Seriously??? That looked like the next political hollywood hit. Is it mean that I can't see Tim Pawlenty being that much of a top dog?
Are there only white people in Pawlenty's world? Oh, wait, I see The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and three black athletes -- those must be the only black people in America and that footage is decades old! Where is America's diversity in this ad? I'm white, but even I'm offended by the exclusion. Was it a deliberate act by the filmmakers?
I did not notice any Native Americans in the mix, either. In fact, not even a "Thank you" for making all this possible!.
"Settling the West wasn't easy!" We had to kill all those injuns!
And pretty much no women ... unless there were there gazingly adoringly at men.
Mike: Among the "traditional values" crowd, that seems to be one of the main function of women.
nothing's easy. we get it.
Only 22 more months until I can cast my vote!
Wow....just wow....there are no words for this sort of self-aggrandizing nonsense
Oh, maybe there are words after all
On the other hand, he used many, many words and said nothing
Thank you, that's EXACTLY what I was thinking after viewing this "___" ad? don't even know what to call it!
Wow. I just can't believe there are people out there that this works with! That might be the most frightening aspect!
Lightweight. He's Pee Wee Herman.
I don't understand why you posted this video.
What it showed me is that, with good producers, you could place anyone in Pawlenty's place and produce the same video. It's meaningless.
Did you post it to show how his campaign is slick and meaningless?
I think they posted it to show how serious he is about running, and how slick they are already packaging him. As you pointed out, good producers can make anyone look good. They did a GREAT job here. They make him look like the one to beat. This should be an interesting circus.
If I thought that much about myself I wouldn't be just GOD.
Anybody else hear the dog whistles?
Loud and clear.
Im sorry I pushed play but all I could hear was blah blah blah Pawlenty's a stupid B!tch
And why on earth is he using images of the Berlin wall falling? Why is he suggesting America had anything to do with it? The German people did that entirely by themselves. Without any help from anyone else, least of all America.
Many people feel that Reagan was instrumental in the Berlin Wall falling
Boy, did YOU miss the memo. That was Reagan...all Reagan. /sarcasm
He wasn't. Just ask any German person!
Well, when you are the leader of the most powerful nation in the world and you stand in front of the wall and tell (not ask) the leader of the Communist party to tear it down, and then 2 years later a wall up over 25 years is no longer standing...you've got a lot of bragging rights.
And if you see an oncoming train--and it gets to the station--are you responsible for that train's arrival? Let's not get too carried away with the Reagan worship. The wall would have fallen sooner or later because the world was changing, the USSR was changing. The wall had become a symbol of repression to the world that belied everything the USSR was trying to make the world believe about it.
Teacher: True, and if the men running the Soviet Union had been determined to exercise their own sort of Sampson Option, things would have turned out much differently, Reagan rhetoric notwithstanding.
If you are at the train station where a train has not come through in decades and you tell the head of the railroad that a train needs to come through and then it does...well, seems to me you probably had some valuable input.
This isn't Reagan worship, it's acknowledging what happened.
