(From Sen. Lisa Murkowski's new e-mail blast.)
Folks, Rachel's Maddow's coming to you live tonight with special coverage of the 2010 elections. This election is taking on historic proportions -- it matters, and we all need to understand as much about it as we can.
Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight gives the Democrats a 16 percent chance of holding onto the House.
In Alaska, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski touts polls showing that her write-in bid is going up like a rocket. Republican leaders say they're eight different flavors of worried about the chances for the Tea Party nominee, Joe Miller. Democrat Scott McAdams is posting his donor list and playing offense, against Sen. Murkowski -- message: I'm viable, and she's the one I need to beat.
In Nevada, our guest Jon Ralston just called the race for Democratic Sen. Harry Reid:
Reid's handlers have run one of the most spectacular campaigns in history at all levels: The turnout machine is formidable. The TV has been pitch perfect. The strategy -- to peel moderate Republicans and independents who might not like their guy away from Angle -- has worked.
And, perhaps equally important, Republicans managed to nominate the one person this year who could lose to Reid.
We'll see you at 9 p.m. Eastern tonight with much, much more.

Polls shmolls, I think the Democrats are going to quietly stand together and vote to restore sanity, much a suprise to all.
Quiet does not equal no vote. Quiet people are Americans too! They can read. They have rights like anybody else.
Thinking people usually are kinda quiet ... as they go around trying to figure things out, to come to common sense solutions for all Americans, and realizing it takes working together with other citizens to craft a better future for us, and for those who follow us ... in a blink of a universal eye!
Possibly they realize, as Kucinich pointed out:
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/kucinich-liberals-vote-cede-forces-nihilism/
I agree Sharran. Most of the polls have not been including households with cellular phone service only--a growing trend among the majority democratic youth.
I never did believe the polls. I haven't forgotten the financial meltdown in 2008. I used to vote republican....never again.
I agree whole-heartedly...I think Tuesday night is going to be a night of surprises....FOR THE REPUBLICANS AND TEA PARTY CROWD!
The WITCH or which is DEAD ... roflmao ... 1 love for Harry Reid
And until the show tonight, all progressives and independents who want sanity, rather than a government run by Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin acolytes, needs to work to get out the Democratic vote. Sign up here:

Want to know more about the 'people' you are 'signing up with'?:

Getting out the vote is a good thing - a really good thing, especially this election with loosing the majority in at least one House possibly. Getting out the vote using tactics like these 'people' do us another - honor, integrity, and ethics count, on all sides...or should anyway. Helping to inflate these type unscruptulus people with direct support is not helping us - just go out and vote (and maybe volunteer in your local area).
The Alaska poll definitely reflects what I've been hearing here in Anchorage- even some of the most hardcore democrats that I know have Murkowski signs in their front yards. I'm voting for McAdams, but either way I seriously doubt that Miller has a chance.
I Cannot Wait!!!! After Weeks of Watching the Polls on the News---- it is Coming Down to a Close Now!!!
Like Rachel Maddow Said--- ( when You Look at Lisa Murkowski from the Far Corner of Right Ville or From Sarah Palins House)---- ( She Looks Too Moderate)
Thanks Rachel---- for the Report Showing How Lisa Murkowski, Really, is Very Similar to Joe Miller!!! But Still---- I Think if Anything, Best to Knock Out the Homophobe Joe Miller Who Handcuffs and Illegally Gets Reporters Arrested!!!
I am Beginning to Hear the Election Music----
Diana B
Wait, what happened to the rules on reporting on any results before the polls closed?
And--- about Nevada--- I think that if Harry Reids Campaign Gets the Hotel, Casino, and Restaurant Union Members to Vote--- He May Win--- I Hope So!!!
Like Jon Ralston Said--- (Sharron Angle Not Only Has a Dangerous and Racist Rheoteric-- She Lacks Critical Thinking, Speaks without Thinking--- and That's Why She is Avoiding Interviews)
Is Sharron Angle Really Fit for the Senate???
Diana B
The quetion is, is Sharon Angle fit, period. Did you hear she is banning the local press from her election day events?? Open and transparent and in hiding
Uh, you mean Nate Silver gives the GOP an 84% chance of taking control of the House? Do the numbers work that direction too, or is it apples and oranges?
I'm hoping that the polling is going to be totally @!$%#ed this year because they don't know how to adjust for the fact that you can only poll land lines. Meaning the polls skew older and therefor more Republican, and Democrats are going to win all of the races that are within the margin for error. Surely Angle can't really win by 4 pts!
Some additional Alaska information: with a write-in list being provided, a radio host has started getting folks to fill out the form that will get them added to that write-in candidate list. The number of write-ins has gone to well over 100. In addition, there are claims that the polls were specifically mentioning Murkowski as one of the three candidates and done on "highly motivated voters" who would already have knowledge of all the candidates.
I am curious about the polling in Ohio-Boener and Mass.-Barney Frank, any information to share? I would hate so much to see Boener take the gavel from Nancy Pelosi, I don't think the house is lost, most of our citizens are aware of the misinformation being spewed, however one cannot take anything for granted. A moderate repub. I can tolerate but the slate chosen this time around is mind boggling. Sanity will prevail!
FiveThirtyEight puts Frank up 14%, with 97.1% chance of winning. And Boener up 35%, with 99.9% chance of winning.
oh, poop! and here I am trying to follow the Giants in the World Series!
looks like a night for channel changing... sigh.
Don't forget the tie check.
Another conspiracy theory from Mama Grizzly on why there would ever be any negative impressions of Joe Miller was presented on Fox News Sunday. Summed up by Media Matters:
http://mediamatters.org/blog/201010310006
Apparently it is the media's fault that Joe Miller makes himself look bad.
And yes, I watch Fox News Sunday...so you don't have to :-). If you have the chance, watch today's interview with S.P. Nothing like a cat fight between two conservatives trying to school each other on how long or short questions and answers should be.
And making Palin's accusation especially screwy (or perfectly normal by Palin standards) is that an audio recording coming through Andrew Breitbart is at the heart of it. So you know it's got to be total crap.
Remember this!
The first vote has yet to be counted. Anything can and will happen:)
What does Xena Warrior Princess have to do with Peter DeFazio?
Worse, what do half a million dollars donated in some "original" ways to Rick Lazio have to do with DeFazio?
And it's only 584 words long.
http://hisvorpal.wordpress.com/2010/10/31/a-mercer-fully-short-investigative-report/
Terreis on Xena? The Amazon queen who was killed by centaurs in the Centaur-Amazon War before the end of the episode, and passed on her Right of Caste to Gabrielle?! Of course she died making peace with the Centaurs, even tho Ephiny (shown behind her in this picture) really wanted the war.
So that was how Gabrielle became an Amazon Queen, and Ephiny later decided to marry a Centaur and bear his child (still working out the logistics on that one).
Small world!
It seems the propaganda machine has prepped the americans quite well for any kind of diebold election theft that might take place.
That aside, this election is shaping up to be a lot like 1934... then take a look at 1936.... but can obama change his ways and make it clear to america who is to blame for this mess?

I'm hoping people will come to their senses and reject extremist, under-qualified Republican/Tea Party candidates and vote for the Democratic Party choice on their ballots.
I just wrote an anti-Bush parody song based on "Her Royal Majesty" to remind folks about what happens when you vote for incompetents like G.W. Bush who had a number of red flags and should have warned people off from voting for him. Listen to the original song here first:
http://tinyurl.com/32zgm7y
My parody song lyrics:
His Royal Majesty
Ladies and gentlemen! Presenting George W Bush!!
There he goes, His Royal Majesty
The worst prez in our history
Upon your head you put a crown
Then ran the country into the ground. Just saying.
There he goes, His Royal Majesty
What a mess he left behind
Oh let me tell you, everybody
How he made a fool of me
His Royal Majesty
Now wouldja believe he acted oh, so sweet
His smiling folksy charm swept us off our feet
He got us to eat right from his little hand
His smallest wish was our command
Well, there he goes, His Royal Majesty
He drove us all into the ditch
Well, I believed he was really for me but now at last I see
We were all made fools by His Royal Majesty
(instrumental break)
He fooled me once, he fooled me twice but now at last I see that
We were all made fools by His Royal, His Royal Majesty
GOP is going to take the House, and the world isn't going to end. 'Cmon, we lived through Republicans controlling the White House, congress and house.
Maybe we won't have so many filibusters since the Republican Senators will look split if they filibuster Republican House approved legislation.
You're talking sense. Do we have the sense to listen? ;)
One of the big differences between the GOP base and everyone else (which includes most Republican leaders): a recognition that there's always another election. I suspect that that's one of the reasons the GOP base has been so freaked out by the election of Obama. Apart from the whole black thing, they found GWB so much to their liking and had such a sense of victory by his one-and-a-half electoral victories that they (the base, not the leadership) never dreamed that another Democrat would ever darken (I meant to do that) the White House. But we're not that dumb (I hope). There's always the chance that 2012 will see the pendulum swing back.
But if the Democrats do retain the Senate, they're going to have to change the rules if the filibuster is to be less of a problem. Personally, I'd rather see the Senate abolished altogether.
Do you really believe a republican-held house would approve any legislation for anyone but the wealthy? They have no interest in the middle class in this country, only the wealthy.
And obviously "looking split" or any other appearances couldn't phase them less. They've made their positions perfectly clear over the last two years by filibustering practically every bill that came to the senate floor.
Yeah, but take the Republicans in Congress now, and inject the incoming Tea Party yahoos, and it could get very implosive.
That would be what's known as a straw man. Wow, when did I say I believed that? I don't think I did.
And no, I don't believe with my whole heart and every fiber of my being that the Senate Republicans will be more likely to pass Republican House legislation. I just think, maybe, it's possible. It's an idea. It's plausible.
I really believe the country will survive. I don't think we will implode. And for god's sake it's only a two year term.
And don't forget, Obama has the power to veto.
@MeddlingMonk I would love it if the Senate got rid of the filibuster. Not having a time limit on debate is the main reason we can't get anything done.
I don't even understand your comment about not having so many filibusters. Of course republicans won't filibuster their own legislation.
The problem will be the nature and quality of legislation coming out of the house.
Didn't you learn anything over the past two years about the republican plans for this country?
Watch the news.
Larry, I do read the news. I read an insane amount of news. So you can stop the personal attacks. You don't even know me so you cannot possibly know how much I know or how much news I consume. My point does not come from a lack of information. If the whole of your argument is simply that you think I'm stupid, that's not an argument.
Having a Republican majority does not mean there are NO Democrats at all. There will still be a Democratic majority in the Senate, so any legislation that is too conservative won't pass the Senate. Republicans in the House will still have to craft legislation that will pass in a Democratic Senate and not get killed by a Presidential veto.
The pressure on Republicans to compromise in the Senate may be greater.
Numbers do not lie...political ads are out in left field this election season ...those who do not read and listen to the Ed Show, Hardball, Countdown & Maddow Broadcasts are really talking without credible information
How anyone can fault President Obama for the mistakes and excess of the past is more than unreasonable
I feel that racism is alive and well and at work in this election. . .the cry take back our nation. . .back from whom/what Wall Street, back from the Bush era spending and war. . .certainly not from a President who has tried since entering office to help our nation survive these many mistakes and the party of "NO"
I am an independant and pray that the Democratic base is still a force to be heard loud and clear
We'll be there tomorrow Chez, and judging from early voting, Dems are coming out strong.
Like 2008 the republicans have a big surprise coming at them.
And If I never hear the word "poll" again I'll be happy!
Voting in my district was heavy this AM...my district is mostly Republican...
Larry, sure hope you are right...will vote early this PM...anxious to see what number I will be!!!
Voting here was heavy too for a midterm election.
I had the honor of voting for Justin Coussoule, John Boehner's challenger in the 8th district of Ohio.
I am having a hard time with John Boehner...Speaker of the House...heard this one too many times this election period
I was number 498 @ 1:45PM sooo this tells me that the Repbulicans were out in force in NW PA
Rand Paul is doing quite well tonight...impressed with MSNBC coverage tonight...looking foreward to the results as they become available...
