The Kentucky Democratic Party has released what might be the most harrowing ad of the campaign season so far. "The Rand Paul Stomp" burns into your brain the image of a Paul county coordinator Tim Profitt stomping MoveOn activist Lauren Valle's head into the curb. Over and over and over.
This is very tough viewing and very tough politics. Fair warning, OK? Clip's after the jump.

As I wrote on Facebook when I first saw this video-"When you allow yourself to be inflamed by idiocy, you might find yourself acting like an idiot."
Good. We're living in an insane world that he's polling anywhere near Conway. If this is what it takes, this is what it takes.
Well, I have two brothers who live in Kentucky and let me tell you, if the shoe were on the other foot (no pun intended, honestly), the Republicans would be running a similar ad...
Tough viewing indeed.
Very sad that politics is in this state and that there have been even more instances like this after this happened.
I live in Lexington, KY and I've yet to see this ad. I'm glad, because even seeing the screen cap turns my stomach. But I can say that I have seen a decrease in my peers (early to mid 20-somethings) apathy towards voting since this horrendous display occured. Many of them have decided they will be voting, just to vote AGAINST Rand Paul. I feel like it might be f-ed up to say that this awful incident is creating positive waves, but...I think it may be. I'm sorry it had to happen this way, though. Ugh, I think I'm gonna be sick.
Rachel, I mailed you a link to my blog site last night and will insert it here as well http://godsownparty.com/blog/2010/10/rand-pauls-goons-know-curbing-is-no-accident/
My story demonstrates that these are NOT isolated acts of random violence...and CERTAINLY not because the attacker has a "bad back". This is just an unfortunate event for these people because this one was caught on tape.
I was "curb stomped" for speaking out against Palin in late 2008 after the general election.
I am on the Board of Directors of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation; a consultant to the California Council of Churches and am under contract with a publisher writing "Palin's America ~ God, Guns & Greed" I am not new to death threats but the attack on me left me with ongoing pain in my face.
Please take the time to read my posts (10-27 & 10-28) that I have linked to above. My story has already changed the vote of a few "republicans" who find this as despicable as we do. Time is of the essence...

Good for you!
I am glad you have such a positive attitude
in the face of adversity

Tough viewing but necessary at this stage; the Paul campaign deserves to be exposed so voters of Kentucky can choose who they want to represent them.
I live in Kentucky. I am a veteran of the U.S. Navy. I am sickened by what our country has turned into because of these corrupt politicians, and dirty political ads. I have seen this country and at this point, I refuse to vote for either Conway or Paul. I am almost to a point where I would rather live in another country.
Been there, done that
That is precisely what
these morons want us to do, think and feel
they want us to give up
give in
and go away
sorry,
I wasn't raised to be a quitter
Stick around
expose these extreme people's behavior
and love your neighbor
Good enough for my mom and dad
Good enough for me
-Fred-
Thank you for your service to our country. I am an American living in Paris since 4 years, and I can tell you I love America now more than ever. Please don't give up, and please consider voting. Now more than ever, it is essential to make your voice heard! (Of course I would hope you would vote AGAINST the abuse of peaceful demonstrators and segregated lunch counters ;-) )
Interview with Olbermann:

I am from Illinois and have been getting increasingly disgusted by the negative ads and this stomping has led me to conclude that we, as a nation, have lost all sense of civility. I don't know the answer to this, but I don't know if we vote Democratic that that is necessarily going to help, because as you pointed out on your show this evening(Oct. 28), the Dems think that they can get the Republicans to work with them and this is not the case.
If this not enough to get every free thinking American off of their behinds and VOTE nothing will. I don't live in Kentucky but, I know Kentucky is better than this. We can not afford to turn our country over to this. What makes this country great is our differences. Those who would limit other rights who do not agree with them should not be anywhere near our goverment.
AMEN TO THAT
You complain about the other side using fear and inflammatory visuals to make their ads and then you do not condemn something like this. Paul's campaign issued almost an immediate statement before they could have even known all the details that violence was not condoned and later once all details were known they condemned the actions of these individuals. What else do you want?
The Paul campaign is keeping the money donated by this individual. That is all I need to know.
What else do we want? How about toning down the rhetoric? How about not flaunting guns at rallies, just because you can? How about stepping up and condemning a candidate who threatens, "I'll take you out"? How about telling someone that "second amendment remedies" to deal with people that don't agree with you is not ok? You people insidiously and continuously raise the ante with subtle or not so subtle threats, encourage violent rhetoric and acts, and then act surprised when something like this happens, and perplexed when the reaction is so strong now. What else do we want? Grow up!
Well said
AWESOME!
Grow up! indeed
Grow up? How about wake up! In this campaign the Vice President has threaten to strangle Republicans and the President has labeled those with a different view as enemies that need to be punished. I guess they didn't meant it in a violence kind of way but anything a Republican does or says has to be interpreted as encouraging violence.
Huh? What campaign are YOU talking about? We're talking about stomping on young women, wearing Nazi uniforms, suggesting a Berlin wall for our borders in addition to the things already mentioned and THAT is your comparison? Pretty weak, RobDon, and not much other way to interpret those things. Smell the flowers. They stink.
No we are talking about using this senseless act against Paul when he condemned it from the start. It is purposefully sensationalized and has nothing to do with the candidate who, like I said, condemn the act.
And the quotes I was referring to from Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden were in this 2010 campaign.
Hmmm. Must of missed those. I do remember President Bush saying something like that, i.e. if you're not with us you're against us kind of thing wrt people who disagreed with that administration. Doesn't sound like Obama, but, if you say so...Like to know the source, however, so I can research the context. Can you send that along? Don't like that kind of thing from anyone.
Easy to find but here's a link:
Obama's remarks:

Biden's remarks:

This incident leaves me filling ill. The whole progression from the guns at rallies to the present "crowd control" trend is truly disturbing, -especially when you consider that some of these people will most likely be representing us in government office.
Speaking of crazy things happening in Republican campaigns, you and your staff need to check out the Christine O'Donnell interview where she treats her staffer like a dog. Literally. She snaps at him to get him to come to her side, and then sort of pushes him towards the interviewer like he's her human shield or something. I would love to hear your commentary on that. Posted on youtube for your viewing pleasure.
Unfortunatly, this is the true mentality of the republican party. Always has been and probably always will.........
Alls I can say is the same thing I said to my wife. She and I are going to the rally for Jon Stuart and Stephen Colbert. I told her if someone so much as touches her I'm going to jail. And, like I told her, I don't give a [bleep] if that's immature or what. I don't think it'll come to that but I'd just like to point out it aint just conservatives whom get protective over their [expletive]. Seriously touch her, I dare ya. You'll see me turn "2nd Amendment" real quick. Now, am I going with that intention, no!!!!! Just dunno whom we'll encounter and since she's black...just figure I should for safety. Obviously I'm open to disagreement (insert here:)
I think she should be okay at the John Stuart Rally. I don't think a lot of crazies will be there since it is a Rally to Restore Sanity. Now, if you were attending a Tea Party Rally, I'd be concerned. It's cute that you're so protective of her though. ( :
It great to see Democrats finally, finally, starting to fight back so they can represent the needs of America. With over 350 bills in Congress not able to be voted on because of the 60 person "rule" including an energy policy, etc., the do-nothings are getting their welfare checks for planning economic hardship so Obama looks bad.
I predict that if the House goes Republican the Dow Jones will fall 5,000 points in the next two years.
If a Democrat had stomped on a Republican protester you can bet it would be THE lead story on FOX, CNBC, Investors Business Daily, Forbes, and all the other Republican controlled media.
All I can add is that I think for some Wallstreet investors et all...(or at least my fear thereof) is that they will withold lending to small businesses et all until they feel their needs are satisfied. So in other words: until we have a 0% tax rate on those making a net gain of 250k+ a year or those selling a 1+million$ place a year, we won't have jobs. I am terrified that's why the private sector hasn't picked up. Because those who would create jobs are those whom would probably lose a business within 5 years; and those whom wouldn't lose a business within 5 years are probably those costing the most jobs...; so reduce the cost and reduce the chance. Sighs it might be my pessimism but I believe in our 50+% financial economy we must please wallstreet in order to have jobs. Thoughts?
If we follow that logic, we should end the minimum wage, the 40 hour work week, safety in the workplace, child labour laws, and health benefits. Add to that environmental controls. THAT would increase profits and make Wall St. ecstatic! Ending the Bush tax breaks for the wealthy would increase the rate by 3% (for those netting 250,000 per year or more). This would return us to the Clinton era, where more jobs were created than during the Reagan years and BOTH Bush administrations combined. And, Clinton balanced the budget and created a surplus. Don't let the millionaires intimidate you! Power to the People!
Like I said, it's just a fear. I don't know that it's true I am just scared that if Republicans get power back you'll "suddenly" see more jobs, ya know? Because wall street will be getting what it wants and I have a fear they are purposely holding you and I hostage to get it. I might be too pessimistic though. You are right though. Your vote is the only power you have.

It happens on both sides, why have I never seen this on MSNBC?
Tasteless.
They are treating her like she was a . . . witch. But she is not a witch, she is just like me.
What more do I want? I want the condemnation of the individual in the white shirt who performed the take-down while grasping the woman's breast, and then came back for another manhandle while she was already down. What did he say to her when he grasped her tit while she laid there on the ground just before the boot hit? Does that tell you what more needs to be known? Sure, you caught the guy in the library, but again you have missed the guy in the grassy knole.
Sadly I have seen a lot of this since we moved to Florida in 1979.
They used to call it
"kicking someone to sleep"
mostly outside of bars, because the aggressors wore cowboy boots.
They knock you down and start kicking.
Didn't happen in this instance
Probably because of the cameras.
When they say they want to take "our" country back
what they really mean is
" there is a Black man having sex in the White House"
and it irks them down to their boots!
These people who do these things
will never stop feeling the way they feel
the best thing to do is
stop their behavior
let them know it is unacceptable
and that people are watching
Because they hate crowds.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
-Edmund Burke-
you hit the nail on the head! This is , for most of the Republican party about the fact athat a black man,who is smart and capable , and a good father and husband has become our President and his risen as they used to say, "above his place".. this is what the extremists who are now drivng the right wing are really mad about.. and that is why there is so much anger and nastiness.. I am not black, but believe that people are to be considered for their character and how they live their lives, contribute to our society etc.
I dont know if it matters at this late date but i had some personal interaction with American Crossroads...at least 4 major companies who said they contributed to it and why....its not an exciting video, but if you are interested in what happens when our democracy is for sale.....this is one persons insight...4 american crossroad donors exposed

One under-reported consequence of the Rand Paul campaign violence is the unwritten American law regarding regarding the penalty for stomping a woman's head, which is:
Anytime you walk into any bar, anywhere in the USA - someone is going to make you wish you had, instead, complimented the woman on her political activism.
It sickens me to watch men abuse each other, let alone a woman! Bullies and cowards. But what's worse is where America is headed as we follow these yahoo's into the third world like zombies feeding on talking points.
