I can't tell you everything about tonight's live show from Las Vegas, but what I do know is that it includes guns. The last time I saw producer Mike Yarvitz, he was heading off in the crew van with Rachel Maddow for destinations including a shooting range.
We'll see you at 9 p.m. Eastern.
After the jump, on location.
For a second, we thought about doing the show live tonight from this vacant lot in Las Vegas, or maybe we were just joking. We did do an interview here, though, with Jon Ralston and a whole lot of helicopters on the runway next door.

Oooh....go to Mandalay Bay....they scent their premises with pina colada aroma!
I found out recently that the fruity bottled drink called Soba has a flavor called "pina colada" that's EXACTLY like a virgin pina colada in taste. At a price from $1.50 to $1.85 (depending where you buy it), just add a bit of rum and you have a very satisfying adult beverage for a very reasonable price... ;-)
I liked the smell of Mandalay bay so much that I bought Febreeze Hawaiian scent for my home...now I can remember all those slot machines I lost my money in! hehehheh....
I think CSI has filmed scenes from that lot before...
I was just going to say the same thing!!
I live in Scottsdale, AZ and moved here from Chicago. I've never in my life seen so may road rage shootings as there are in the Greater Phoenix area. Not even on the South Side of Chicago were there this many. Maybe it's because it's legal to carry weapons ANYWHERE in Arizona. Yes even in bars and restaurants serving alcohol. I even saw a "gentleman" with a pistol strapped to his thigh in the Produce Section of my local Safeway Market. YIKES!!! I didn't know you needed to shoot your own produce???
That pineapple was lookin' at me funny.
Potatoes are shifty-eyed buggers.
But seriously, yolks, I don't think the NRA will be happy until every citizen walks around looking like an ambulatory armory and every baby book will have a page entitled My First Kill.
If you guys go to the shooting range on Tropicana, Go to Casa di Amore. Its a Vegas themed restaurant in Vegas. Sweet Frank Sinatra style impersonator at night.
Rachel, your show last night was fantastic. However, you missed a HUGE opportunity by not asking the Republican nitwits (Murkowski and Miller) what they expect to happen after they privatize Social Security and the economy tanks. Those seniors who are dependent on SS, of course, will end up on welfare. After all these months of blather about privatizing SS from the idiot Tea Baggers, no one to date (that I know of) has asked the proponents what happens AFTER the Wall Street pigs (again) steal all the money that's invested in the stock market. If welfare is dismantled, which is what the jerks want also, are seniors out on the the street OR WHAT??
But she did ask about it. When she talked to Murkowski about her plan to privatize 25% of Social Security she asked about what would have happened when the economy tanked.
And she only had time for a handful of questions with Joe Miller while she and the crew jogged beside him on the way to his car. The jerk.
Maybe she'll ask Sharron Angle about it tonight. If she can get an interview. I'm on the edge of my seat to see if she can. Her producers and crew are pretty determined little buggers, and so is Rachel, so I'm betting they can get Angle on TV, but the quesiton is for how long.
That was awesome. It was like you were ordering a pizza! Hope you got the uzi.
Shoulda stayed in Alaska longer, if you wanted to talk to people with guns!
You do realize that it would be virtually impossible for a civilian to purchase an M249, it is a military Squad Automatic Weapon. I luv ya Rachel but be sure to mention the mountains that an average law abiding person would have to move to own that gun.
I'm sure there are places where, if the price were right, any weapon can be had. Gun laws are left up to states to create and enforce, but there is a black market in pretty much any state.
Personally, I think they were joking about the Uzi.
We have at least one gun shop here in Vegas where you can rent the Uzi for the shooting range. Not kidding... that's just Vegas being Vegas.
I was a bit disappointed at the producing for the "2nd Amendment remedies" and "machine gun rental" bits. Looked to me like the image they wanted to portray was a bunch of machine gun toting crazies start shooting stuff up.
As Rover hinted at, it's almost impossible for a civillian to own either of those weapons she fired. In particular, the "M249" exists as a grand total of 1 (known) available to the general public. (and by general public, I mean it's theoretically possible, but the number of people is very limited) If you can pass all the federal checks and get a Class III Federal Firearms License, if you live in a state that allows for legal ownership of machine guns, if you can then locate the 1 other person who owns it, if you can then convince that person to sell it to you, if you manage to cough up the more than $100,000 it would cost (based on last sale price) to buy it from the 1 other person rich enough to afford it, and if you can get the ATF to issue you the tax stamps required to do the transfer, that M249 could be yours!
Rachel was most likely firing a 'dealer sample' that the gun store has so it could act as the middle-man between the manufacturer and government/law enforcement (the only non-military groups that can buy it).
And Cynth, you're flat out wrong saying that gun laws are left to the states to create and enforce.
So where is happy hour tonight? Have a blast in Vegas ....if you gamble go off strip, better odds!
Off the Strip???? R U nuts ??? Every game in Vegas-town is 5-8% stacked in favor of the 'house'.
Wall street borrows from the GOP / USG at 1.25% and lends (sometimes) at 4.5% ....which spread would you invest in.
No wonder a small biz can't get a loan... to make 3% (maybe)!
Does anyone know where the broadcast is going to be? Is it open to the public? Are tickets available?
There is a great piano bar in the New York..
I still don't get Sharron Angle, how such a backwards conservative spawned from a state that is sooo Vegas.
Vegas is a planned city set apart in a desert wasteland so a captive tourist trade could flourish. Oh, and the Mafia had something to do with that as well. How could a backwards conservative not spawn from such a desolate and desperate area?
When a person thinks of Nevada, it's usually Las Vegas, Laughlin, Reno, Tahoe, and little ole Carson City. True, the casinos were a brain child of the Mafia, but today it's bigger than that. I still don't get it.
liked your show last night, but tonight in vegas will be interesting.. how can sharon angle be a possible contender? it's beyond my comprehension
Is this going to involve a naked Korean man jumping out of somewhere and beating someone with a tire iron??
Oh, please let this happen.
Ah, can you repost the "Landing in Vegas" video on Vimeo? Maddow is adorable when she wakes up.
I'm totally excited to see Rachel fire an M249. That's one hell of a gun.
Rachel, you were marvelous in my hometown of Anchorage last night. My partner said it was the best Maddow show she has seen to date. I enjoyed seeing familiar faces and my old haunts with the Democrats. Thank you for listening to Linda and Shannon and going to AK. I am now registered in Alabama. It is oh so different here. At home people told it like it was in politics. In Alabama people are politically polite and it is susch a change of pace. I continue my political involvement and hope for people to get a grip and vote for Equality for All. Thank you for your show and I know you enjoyed the beauty of my home state. Keep up your fabulous reporting in Nevada.
Great show last nite!!!! I as an independent [LIBERAL] think sometimes you are to far left but I love your tonasity and your untimidated ways of going after the truth!!!!! You and your organizers are usually spot on with the facts!!!!! You have away of putting canidates on the spot without them realizing it, by then it is to late for them to lie out of it and still save face GREAT JOB RACHEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just so I can get this right for my gun-toting fellow citizens here in Montana (7/8 of the population), Rachel is on her way to a shooting range for a little R & R (relax and reload)?...
prediction (based on the Miller interview) : Rachel gets to interview Angle as her people move her from a luncheon meeting, down the hall, in the ladies room, and as she washes up.
fight vs. flight, they're all running from Rachel, she's way too good
That's classic!
This is just a bit unsettling. Please tell me that Rachel has not become Anglican and is now searching for 2nd amendment remedies.
Never fear, Maddow likes to shoot guns but does not suppport "2nd amendment remedies".
That said, Maddow clearly knew what weapon she was shooting and did not need the nice young amn to explain it to her.
Oh thank the Lord! I thought maybe the Vegas sun was playing with her mind after being in the dark in Alaska.
Rachel...love your show and God forgive me for how I present this comment ;-)
Since were speaking of guns and the 2nd amendment I felt compelled to make this comment regarding the recent horrific situation involving the Paul campaign.
Imagine the scenario if the young woman who was assaulted had invoked her 2nd amendment right; per the tea party's belief system. Let's just imagine if she had been more aggressive herself, managed to push the thugs off of her, reached into her pocket and pulled out a gun and fatally shot them both.
Would the tea party candidates then continue to stand behind their beliefs that she had the right to protect herself? Which, clearly would have been self defense. Would she have then become a "hero" rather then the stomped upon ragdoll that everyone with any compassion for human life can plainly see yet others deny?
Would the tea party/republican party then defend her behavior? or would they let the law take it's course?
I'm grateful that there is gun control. It's hard to believe, yet higly probable that the situation could have been even uglier than it was.
There is a email going around to perpetuate the FEAR in taking away guns. There is a NAIL GUN that looks like a AK47 that those who are stocking up on weapons say in the Email - CANNOT be taken away from us - Dad's Christmas present this year.

I think Rachel missed the boat during her interview with Bob Irwin at The Gun Shop. Instead of going off on the second amendment remedy tangent, she should have asked Irwin why he was against Harry Reid for supporting Supreme Court nominees. Did he expect the majority leader to oppose his president's choices?
Why does this man and his friends worry that their second amendment rights are under siege? Does he have any evidence? These are the questions that get at the core of conservative paranoia, and we need to explore and understand their position.
Rachel Maddow should have asked Bob Irwin why he thinks that it is not a bad idea to sell assault rifles, large clips and super destructive ammunition.
