Tonight's show from Anchorage, Alaska was especially rich in great quotes but my favorite of the night was from the really great interview with Tank Jones. I've made an mp3 of it for your ringtoning pleasure here.
It's at 4:40 in the clip below:
I think a close runner-up for quote of the night, other than Joe Miller telling Rachel he wants to be straight with her, was Rachel's remark at the beginning of the Joe Miller interview about his leading the way so they didn't end up on a bridge to nowhere.

I agree with the bridge to nowhere comment of awesomeness and win. I actually laughed and applauded when she said that. It was just perfect and wonderful.
We love Tank!
Couldn't have said it better.
Yep, bridge to nowhere - excellent.
Also:
Joe Miller supporter guy: "I, I'm honestly ... I'm not ... I don't know enough about him [Eric Holder] to answer that [what specifically Holder has done that is anti-gun] truthfully, Rachel."
Joe Miller supporter woman: "I don't have all the facts, but I know he is anti-gun."
I cringed when the anti-gun crowd stumbled over itself. Ignorance should not be celebrated; it should be countered, full force, and we need to start being unapologetic about being intelligent and adhering to the facts as they are, not as some right-wing fantasy has molded them.
It's one of the reasons I have so much respect for Rachel. She's damn intelligent, and she isn't going to back down from that.
That's typical of a majority of both GOP and Tea Party supporters I have spoken to (and there have been many, as I'm often finding myself embroiled in debates in various online venues with one or more of them). They make lots of broad generalizations, and when you try to pin them down to specifics, either they can't answer, avoid answering, or resort to name calling and poorly spelled insults because they have no relevant answers.
In the last week alone I've been called a "communist", "traitor", "mentally diseased", and "hateful race baiter" (which was due to my saying that the signs we've seen at many Tea Party events were racist). I've also been told that "all liberals should be rounded up and shot", and that I should have my citizenship revoked based solely on my political views (nevermind that I'm 4th generation American). And those are just the comments I am willing to repeat!
Stand tall
I've been told the same things
you're not alone.
Gee, Maureen, you've racked up a pretty good score in a short time. I've been called all of those things and more, been told that 10% of the muslims in the world are bad and need to be killed in order make America safe, been called a child molestor, communist, traitor, terrorist sympathizer....the list is long and at turns chilling and funny. It demonstrates that the extreme right has no ideas, no coherent thoughts, and that their followers have to resort to name calling in order to distract their opponents from discovering that central fact.
Obama/Holder BROADER gun laws ... "Open Carry in National Parks" legislation was signed into law May 2009 by Pres. Barack Obama.
We need to educate these people !
I loved the 'bridge to no where' quip .....wickedly brilliant ;)
Go McAddams!
I gave Tank a standing ovation when he went on his "you can't cure that!" diatribe. It's about time I heard someone on one of the cable stations articulate that.
I love Rachel's "Please don't fake arrest anybody.." to Tank. Tank seems so lovable.
Excellent show especially Rachel pressing the candidates to their facts.
I don't understand those pro-gun supporters and their inability to prove something that they seemed so passionate about and the random 'google it' suggestion, even though, clearly they had not googled it enough to answer the questions.
I would like to think that if a person is going to put the effort into standing outside in the cold in a protest of any kind, that they actually might have the facts together as to why. Hopefully Rachel follows up on it and finds out about the truth vs random google pages that they suggested.
I really enjoyed the interview with Tank. I wish there had been more time with the Dem candidate but he looked busy too. Lisa was 100% more tolerable than Joe. Joe just looks as if he is about to snap at any moment.
In the modern conservative movement, you don't have to be right. You just have to be loud. That's why Fox News and the Limbaughs of the world are so successful.
I'm glad Rachel got interviews with all three opponents, and I respect Lisa for not flipping out when Rachel pressed her on the issues. I disagree with her positions, but at least she had the guts to stand there and explain them. She presented herself far better than Miller.
I like the interview with Tank, because we saw him as more than just "Levi's bodyguard," and we got an idea of what it was really like to live in Alaska and what this election is about for a state that really is unlike any other.
All in all, great show tonight!
I love Tank! He is a great guy that I have had the pleasure of hanging with here in Anchorage several times. I think what filming at the Taproot with an audience has shown is something we sort of already knew- that Rachel Maddow is freakin' hilarious. It's too bad she doesn't having an audience in her studio at MSNBC.
Sorry, that was supposed to be "have an audience" at the end there...as you can tell from the time stamp, I had been up all night when I posted my comment.
This was a wonderful show, and Tank? Probably the best part.
Loved the irony of the "I want to be straight with you" comment. I wonder if he even knew who he was talking to.
I think if he knew who was interviewing him, he wouldn't have done it.
Tank is great! I'd love to have a beer with the guy. I say the whole segment with him should be the Quote of the day, but I loved the comment about curing being gay as ridiculous priceless. Period!
He seems like an all-around open minded and fun person and I like the fact that he has a realistic slant on Alaskan views. It is definitely a different political animal up here. Very passionate and widely different.
By the way; I can see a Joe Miller sign from my house. Bleh. :[
My dental assistant in Austin told me the other day (while up to her elbows in my mouth) that she was just dead set against "Obamacare" because of all the other stuff in it. Finally asked what other stuff and she said oh you know, like all the gun control and other stuff I can't remember, but I know it's in there! The "I'm against Eric Holder because of all the gun stuff" was exactly the same. No facts, just wild claims that folks swallow. In my case in this instance, I spat.
I freaking love Tank! He totally stole the show tonight. Where can I get a Tank Jones of my very own?
Bridge to nowhere.........ok.........$670M in gross government fraud waste and abuse..........US. Army Corps of Engineers cover-up, cover-up, and fraud waste and abuse for hydraulic pumps installed at all three outfall canal structures at a cost to taxpayers of $1.5B...worst man made disaster since since Chernoible...
Tank Jones was indeed a sweetheart and as another commenter said, he totally stole the show. I especially loved last night's show, because it was jam packed with different perspectives, and different people with a lot of interesting things to say. I loved getting to see Alaska; it kind of reminded me of Canada, in that Rachel was able to get an interview with every candidate and that people were so warm and friendly. Easily one of my favorite quotes of the show:
"And maybe we'll get to interview Sharron Angle! Or maybe she'll give us a thumbs up sign through a car window, you never know."
Loved the show. Gave us a complete view of Alaska politics and its difference to the lower 48 that I never knew. Great interviews, wish more time with the McAddams, really in depth with Lisa Murk......ski, plus the bonus of chasing Miller.
I have to say when I first saw that you were sitting in Alaska and you said you were going to interview Miller, I paused and called my daughter to let her know who said in an exclamation type voice "No Shi... Kidding" when she realized her sister and my 4 yr old grandson was sitting there, which brought the house down. So we were all very excited even a 4 yr old that had no idea why everyone was laughing.
You need a keep the segment Chasing ????? (insert name) you tried for Christine, you got Miller, you are heading to Nevada.... who knows where you may show up next?
Great Job!
"We NEED someone to get in the way."
I'm a Jones, so I'm claiming Tank as my cousin. #;)
Watching those obviously commited anit Obamites carrying signs out in the cold and having absolutely no idea what they were talking about has to make you wonder. We have entered the Fact Free age. We don't think about stuff any more, we just believe stuff. Somewhere between the development of the Atom bomb and HIV, that just became unacceptable. I don't know if it's the ability to cherry pick what you want to read on Wikipidia and Google or ClusterFox, but people just say stuff now, and no one challenges them. I for one believe that whales secretly speak French on the bottom of the ocean, and you can't prove me wrong.
Oh yeah my favorite Tank Line "We NEED somebody to get in the way" That needs to be a Ring tone too.
awesome show

Wow...
Srsly, David. She needs to see that immediately.
Rachel is the greatest! I never write fan letters, but for her I am! She made monkeys out of the protesters just by asking a simple question! She made Miller look like a jerk. Markowski was pretty good and stuck to her views. McAdams looks like he has a chance! That would be awsome!!
Love you Rachel!
She did make them out to be monkeys, or at least Fox News parrots. If you disagree that strongly with someone, you should be able to explain why. What they were essentially proving is that they dislike AG Eric Holder because he was appointed by President Obama. Appointed eh, not elected. I'm just a blue collar schmuck and heck, even I know that. Most blue collar democrats that I know here in Anchorage could eat those guys for breakfast and still have room for lunch.
"A Bridge to Nowhere" Hands down Quote of the Year
