If Fox can promote and cover the Beck rally, I hope MSNBC will promote and provide live coverage of this rally:
This Saturday, a broad coalition of progressive organizations will hold a massive One Nation Working Together rally -- actually kind of a revival -- aimed at allowing progressives to emerge from a defensive crouch, stand up straight and mobilize our forces to do battle in the decisive midterm elections.
so what's going to happen with this bush tax cut expiration? if repubs take congress will president obama veto a bill that includes tax cuts for the filthy rich? it's been widely reported that letting all the tax cuts elapse will make balancing the budget possible. would that be such a bad thing?
if so-called "fiscal" repubs are willing to blow up the budget to make the stance that people over $250,000 "must" get a tax cut, or no one will, who will flinch first? wouldn't the president welcome this fight? he could (happily) be painted into a corner by the rigid party of no. it would appear conservs are willing to drive their bus (especially if this new crop of lunatic teabaggers get in) right off the cliff for the 2 percenters. obama could tell the american people it's the "responsible" thing to do. i think it's a winning platform, let conservs force obama to let the whole thing elapse.
if dems lose congress, this may very well play out. what do you think?
Here is the problem with the Republican proposal to extend the tax cuts for the top 2% of persons in the US. First, it will cost $700 Billion which the same party claims will destroy the country when applied to the Stimulus issue. Second, they have no plan to pay for it. Third, the Bush tax cuts ten years ago DID NOT produce the "pay for it" projections that they said would happen. In fact, the Reagan tax cuts did not get paid for, the Bush Tax cuts did not get paid for, and the proposed tax cuts would not be paid for. So who will pay for it?
The people who make on average $50,000 per year will pay for it! Why? Because when you run the numbers this will be a hugh tax increase for the lowest income earners in the country and the biggest tax break in history for Millionaires and Billionaires who right now pay, in most cases, only 10-15% and hide a great deal of their real income. Low income earners don't have that possibility because they don't have the hiding places that the rich have...they actually have to spend it to live.
