"Rove also used a highly regarded Republican East Texas state senator to advance a whisper campaign about gays and lesbians surrounding Richards, some of whom had been appointed to boards and commissions that were to represent Richards' new Texas."

Culture war is one way to put it. Entrenched right wing zealots are really engaging in one of the worst practices in our history, "McCarthy-ism". Just substitute the words "gay" or "abortion" for "communism." America finally said to McCarthy, "shame on you", after he and his committee had ruined hundreds of lives. Right wing fringe leaders like Mr. Gingrich should take a long look in the mirror. If they look long enough, they will see Joseph McCarthy. Shameful.
Note that Catholic Families for America is not an organization officially affiliated with the Church. They might peruse the Catholic Press for neat little updates on their website, but I could not find any endorsement from any organizations like the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops or the Pope, for that matter. Their only contacts listed appear to be two lay people: Dr. Kevin Roberts and Mikhail Fedewa. They do not have an "About Us" link on their website, so you will have to do some detective work to find out anything "About Them"--who they are endorsed and funded by, whether they are an official arm of the Catholic Church, what parishes to which the only two contacts belong, etc. At 4 in the morning, I'm only awake enough to half-care.
While the Catholic Church has long been adamant on its views on the preservation of life and abortion--which comes all the way from the brass in Rome, I find some of the issues on their questionnaire incongruous with Church positions. For instance, you can get a glimpse of how the Church feels about guns here:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2010-07-21-guns20_ST_N.htm
And I think we all can remember how 60,000 Catholic nuns feel about healthcare reform (thank God for strong women):

And I don't know where this whole anti-immunization record thing came from (first question under E. The Constitution). I went to Catholic school for 8 years and always had to provide immunization records at the beginning of the school year in certain grades. And the school I went to was uber-medieval.
Now, I've been Catholic all my life, up until recently. And I've sat in many a Sunday mass listening to priests dance around legislating from the pulpit during election season. They will not come out and name names, but will say things like "you should vote for pro-life candidates." The Catholic Church, although arcane, flawed, corrupt and seemingly greedy, is definitely not stupid and will not give up tax-exempt status by rendering official endorsements. The Catholic Families for America seems to be a group of jaded parishoners who are all too willing to jump on the rightwingnut bandwagon. I say let them. When the average blue collar American Catholic gets wind of their endorsements, they might smile and nod, like the good little Church goers they all are. But as soon as they turn away, will likely utter something to the effect of "Those guys are nuts."
O'Donnell is one terrifyingly stupid candidate.
Seriously, she's all candy floss with no substance.
I said this before in the context of Jan Brewer in Arizona. Does the Palin/Tea Party machine think that women like myself are just going to ignore blatant stupidity and vote for these idiots because we have some mystical connection with our ovaries?
Are they trying their hardest to make that glass ceiling completely shatterproof for legitimate, intelligent women running for office?
Then again there is party of me that hopes that the Tea Party extremists split the conservative electorate. Or, to be a complete pessimist, I hope they get elected in 2010 and prove that they are incompetent whackjobs that make the 2012 election cycle a slam dunk for progressives.
Sigh. O'Donnell makes me twitch.
Another one that has the correct last name Corker he really is a CORKER!!!!!!!!!
Am I the only one who is heartily sick of Christine O'Donnell. She is another flash in the pan bright shiny object. I turned of last night's show because I couldn't listen to any more about O'Donnell after Keith spent far too much time on her the hour before.
Please cover the other substantive things going on and ignore her. She isn't worth the airtime.
