George Rekers dropped off another list of luminaries this week. Rekers, the cure-the-gays reverend who got caught with a Rent Boy last month in the Miami airport, had been part of the Facts About Youth campaign from the American College of Pediatricians. Two weeks before Rekers was photographed with the male prostitute by Miami New Times, Facts About Youth sent letters to every school superintendent in the nation telling them that therapy can stop kids from being gay.
Facts About Youth had listed Rekers as a member of the Pediatric Psychosocial Development Committee. Now his name's gone. Asked why, Lisa Hawkins of the American College of Pediatricians writes:
We have been unsuccessful in our attempts to contact Dr. Rekers and therefore we think it is unlikely that he will be able to contribute to the work of the Pediatric Psychosocial Development Committee at this time.
Hawkins says they took Rekers off the list yesterday.

It will be a sad day if that hypocrite ever resurfaces again except in abject humility & apology for all the lives that have been affected by his lies.Good riddance to bad rubbish !

I just want him to come to terms with his sexuality, apologize for the wrong he's done, and then get to work on repairing it. Now THAT would be a story worth telling. Come on, George, it's not too late to save your soul.
If the-gay can be cured, then homophobia is surely easier. Apology is the mantra of the 21st century.....overused, under sincere, and a slippery way to take no real responsibility, while lying all over again. I wish I had a dollar for each time I heard a political or racial apology on MSM and cable....just since 12/31/00. ten and a half years of those dollars and I could retire. This slime needs actions not words to redeem himself....should that even be possible
So, the religious ultra right has turned on one of their own and chucked him overboard. This reminds me of the bad old days of communism and the USSR, when the Politburo would carefully and meticulously remove those out of political favor from photographs, history books, and even movies, thereby making them non-persons. And that was in the days before Adobe Photoshop. Wonder how non-person George is taking all this. Or maybe I wonder if I wonder; seems to me like he is getting his just desserts.
george is pretty much an untouchable right now. except for the rent boy, ha ha. we all know how the political right is. hypocrites upon hypocrites. he could come back but would have to disavow everything he has stood for up to now. coming "out" as an advocate for gay rights is his only real "salvation". c'mon george, the left is more forgiving than the fake religionite right.
Just in case anyone was skeptical about people stating "those people that are damning, hating, discriminating against GLBTQ people are most likely closeted self hating gays, themselves", this and the other stories back that theory up.

"coming "out" as an advocate for gay rights" would only further fry his feeble brain. Homophobia is regrettably learned .....The-Gay is genetic and irreversible and not contagious. People... please, wish (or pray) this George Rekers impostor into the current century. It is time to give up denying the-Gay and go with the flow..... his problem is....unless he pays for affection, he will likely never have any.

Current tv's new season of Vanguard started. They just had a doc on the Ugandan kill-the-gays bill. It was very good, I suggest everyone watch it if they can.
I wonder if George Rekers has a conscience, and now can consider the incredible damage he has inflicted on gay youth. If he had any integrity whatsoever, he would donate vast sums of money to organizations that assist gay youth, money Rekers "earned" from his anti-gay work.
A great idea would be the Point Foundation, which gives educational grants and scholarships for young gay/lesbian students for college and grad school. These are youths who have been essentially abandoned by their families because of their sexual orientation.
Do you have a conscience, George? Or are you as disgusting and reprehensible a human being as you appear to be?
This man has made the lives of so many people, especially young people, so miserable with this cure nonsense, to the vengeful person inside me it hardly seems fair that he simply gets to disappear into anonymity.
