Hawaii has had enough with answering requests for President Obama's birth certificate. State law already limited access to birth certificates to people with direct interest in them -- meaning mainly the individual or families of the individual, or state officials. A new law sponsored by Democratic State Sen. Will Espero will exempt the Hawaii Department of Health from having to answer multiple Freedom of Information requests from the same person. From the Honolulu Advertiser:
"It will certainly provide some relief and help that Department of Health staff (needs), although I don't think it will by any means put an end to the birther issue," Espero said. "There are people out there, and mostly from the Mainland, who are just rabid about this and I don't think anything we provide or give them will convince them otherwise."
Meanwhile, the birther march on Washington has been postponed, "[d]ue to scheduling conflicts and the importance of this March," write the folks at Philip J. Berg's ObamaCrimes. The event had been scheduled for May 29. The idea was to declare health form null because it was signed into law by a president they consider illegitimate.
"Mr. Berg, this is incredible, this cancellation is like a nightmare," wrote commenter C.R. "Your website does not go into any detail why it was canceled. I for one have gone through a lot of trouble scheduling and paying for tickets to travel to Washington. I just called Amtrak up and cancel my trip. I've been writing, calling, every news media in the Boston area to help rally people for this event. By canceling this event, the opposition now has the opportunity to say everything we do is foolish! Somehow you have to get the information out there why it was canceled.. If you do not do this, I believe your support will dwindle."
"The reason was do to several factors. Many groups want to join in but were unable to do to the date and timing. We were contacted by several groups, journalists, etc. asking us please to continue it to Aug. or Sept. In addition, feed back that came to us was that Aug. or Sept. would be far more effective as Elections are in November.
"This March is extremely important and the more support, the better. Plus, people will remember when they go to vote, which is equally important. May 29, 2010 a lot of people had planned vacations with their families also."

The grammar of these comments should prove the stupidity of the Birthers.
Indeed, it does.
Agreed.
Journalists asked them to push it back to August? What?
Sean Hannity had a scheduling conflict
if the reference was to Sean Hannity then he was using the term "journalist" quite loosely
perhaps there is a need for FEMA re-education camps after all.
We already have something like that: it's called "grade school." Apparently these birthers missed a few (dozen? hundred?) classes. Good on the Hawaii Dept. of Health for refusing to lend these idiots any credibility even by just responding to them.
"By canceling this event, the opposition now has the opportunity to say everything we do is foolish!"
Totally, because up until now we thought you were legitimate.
"We were contacted by several groups, journalists, etc. asking us please to continue it to Aug. or Sept."
Journalists wanted them to push it to September? Yeah, right, if by "journalists," he means, "tea party bloggers."
I'm sure so did late night comedians.
Here's an email from the right that has gone viral!
This should help stimulate the Real Estate market!
UNDER THE NEW HEALTH CARE BILL - DID YOU KNOW THAT ALL REAL ESTATE TRANSACTIONS ARE SUBJECT TO A 3.8% “SALES TAX”?
YOU CAN THANK NANCY, HARRY & BARACK (AND YOUR LOCAL CONGRESSMAN) FOR THIS ONE.
IF YOU SELL YOUR $400,000 HOME, THIS WILL BE A $15,200 TAX.
The truth:
http://factcheck.org/2010/04/a-38-percent-sales-tax-on-your-home/index.html
I'm a real estate agent and I was sent that email by a right-winger RE agent I know.
I called my Congressman, Alan Grayson, and asked his office about this, because I love to confront the wingers with facts, and this is the response I got back:
"You might enjoy this one: <<5.11.10 Audit The Fed Passes Senate - NEWS RELEASE.doc>>
Hot off the press!
The two websites to consult regarding healthcare implementation are: www.healthreform.gov and www.whitehouse.gov/healthreform
To reiterate what I said on the phone, according to a congressional liaison who responded to my query, nowhere in the bill does it state that there will be an increase in real estate fees to implement the insurance reform bill."
Just more crap from the Right! But, what else do they have?
how many ways can you say???...there just weren't enough crazed looney rubes to make a march, a shuffle maybe, but march meh...OMG enough already and really i vote to change the whole "birther movement" to "just straight up racist movement" it's so much more sincere and forthright... n'est pas???
If I recall correctly, the last several wingnut "marches" have topped out at about "a few hundred" participants—hardly the Earth-shaking impact they boast of in hyping these events. Give them the delay, maybe they'll be able to break the 500 attendee mark.
To the birthers and members of other anti-Obama wingnut factions, two things you need to learn:
I particularly like the "also" at the end. Sarah Palin, anyone?
May 29 hmm May 29.. Isn't that MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND! Yes a lot of families would have a scheduling problems with vacations. Duh! Think these people have problems with calendars and dates ...
you should add a few "[sic]" tags to the quotes. maybe even "[sic!]"
I was paraphrasing
You people are nuts. Obama is a great man. I suppose you would like the idiot and torturer back. George Bush was not elected President and you didn't see the dems going to the lenght that you nuts are. I suppose all of you nuts think that Jesus is on your side too. You don't even have a clue. Jesus taught love and forgiveness not hate and dissension. I'm sick of all the hipocrates who don't even have the first inkling of what the bible does or doesn't say.
There are probably nuts on both sides of the aisle, but the right takes the cake. With Fox Propaganda and lies, it's no wonder you people think like that. Quit being Dittoheads full of hate and looneyness.
Wake up people, you were duped. The agenda of the right is destructive. Look at the gulf and see what I mean. Hell look at what our forefathers did the the native Americans and the black people. Narcisism is your game.
You people accuse Obama of trying to redistribute wealth. Well guess what, Bush did it. He took from the middle class and the poverished and gave it to the rich, who didn't need it. Well we want it back. The last admin made a mockery of the Constition and frankly brought us to the brink of collapsing and now the new admin is trying to get it fixed, but the Repugs are trying to make sure he fails. Well if you want anarchy and lawlessnes, keep it up.
I'm so disgusted with you people and your lies and crazy ideas. Do us all a favor and go drown yourselves with all your precious oil.
Birthers are like the modern KKK. Instead of wearing while sheets they hide behind the birther label. I guess it's progress??? wacked out as it seems...
I completely argee Carol
I completely agree Carol
Memorial Day in DC - there's a really big bunch of people here already - Rolling Thunder! and even Liberals like me will be there. and look, most of us can spell, have comprehensible grammar... amazing, no? These "birther/bagger/tenther" types need to unpack their white robes and hoods and stay away. thanks.
Unfortunately, this kind of thinly-veiled racist propaganda will continue from the Radical Right for as long as it gets FREE media coverage and is perceived to generate contributions and votes for those who can't stand being the minority party and are hungry, even desperate (to the point of saying and doing ANYTHING) to regain political power.
I wish the media would just ignore these nutcakes as you would a child performing a tantrum. If they hold their breath waiting for the attention they crave, maybe they'll turn blue and pass out. Obama is President, and they can't change that. Ignore them and maybe they'll go phishing for some other fictitious cause.
In one sense I'd like to agree with you - but, on the other hand, history has proven that we ignore bigotry at our peril! You can't fight what you don't recognize exists.
But this has been online for months now. This birther stuff is just insane.

been available for close to two years - doesn't matter - the birther/bagger types could hold the original in their hands and declare it a fake

Rachel has to issue the challenge to the Birthers. Put up 10 million dollars to see Obama's long form birth cerrtificate to prove he is a citizen. The money goes to the charities of Obama's choosing if it proves he is a citizen. Rachel goes to Hawaii to check it out and picks up some nice summer drink recipes.
If they are so sure he is NOT a citizen, they have not a penny to lose.
Not the way they're hoping, I bet. People tend to try to distance themselves from lunatics, even if it's only for their self-image.
No doubt about it -- there are vastly more important issues at hand...
One such item that is driving me completely crazy is the FCC's incessant desire to run Sirius XM into the ground!
After forcing the longest merger in history (17 months), the FCC is now proposing to introduce regulations that would permit Wireless Broadband to be broadcast at such obscene levels that it renders the satellite radios to be inoperable.
Rachel -- please help to shine some light on this relentless pursuit to stop uncensored radio!
It is so obvious to anyone who has passed first grade that the teabag jargon is a racist issue. Those right wing idiots just can't handle an African American being our president. They consider black people, inferior. Or, they consider white people, superior. There is a minute' difference in those statements. Basically, that the white conservative man thinks he is superior to all races, not just the black.
I am amused at the white women who are out there shouting and carrying signs. I'll wager a bet that 95% of them are married and have no clue that they, too, are considered inferior by their white male husbands.
It would be a great idea if, as spoken by another blogger, we could just be honest. But, white male conservatives have gained their power by deceiving and hiding. Exposure is the only way to gain a balance and stop this idiotic effort they are using by lying and denying.
Good God I'm so sick of hearing the right whine about health care reform. It's the same damn bill the GOP tried to give us in 1993 minus tort reform, which doesn't do much according to non-partisan officials. I can't even envision what a left version of Bush would be like with them. (righties, imagine health care reform happening at least once a month).
Both of the birthers quoted in the article sound like ESL writers--that is, writers for whom English is a second language. Could it be that the birther movement is being driven by non-Americans?
Superior/inferior rhetoric? Anyone?
Sincerely,
ESL writer who can kick your ass in 5 languages
The press will inflate the numbers of those attending this march as they always do. There could be 100 people in attendance and they will give them as much attention as if there were several million. Why they think these people matter so much is beyond me.
My kingdom for a proofreader!
