Welcome back. Nothing changed in your absence.
Great job down in Louisiana. Content strong, performance excellent.
Be advised that we've imported three swarms of Gulf Coast flying insects to be released in the studio at 8:59 PM EDT tonight, tomorrow, and Friday. Felt like they gave you a certain edge during the Monday and Tuesday shows, and we want to see if we can re-create that magic back in NYC. Audience seemed to enjoy your effort to remain poised while consumed by bugs.
More to follow.

Halliburton Presentation May Explain Horizon Oil Rig Explosion and Fire
They knew the dangers of fast-curing concrete sealing at those depths was one of over-warming the clathrates ("cages" of water molecules held by hydrogen bonds and massive pressure, entrapping methane which upon release suddenly reaches 168 times its volume).
But economic considerations apparently overruled safety considerations.
FDL links to this extremely damning PowerPoint (PDF) by Halliburton techs dated 6 months ago.
"Oh, well", said the customer in my store with his son yesterday. "The damn Democrats are planning these major lawsuits before they even know who was damaged. Before you know it I'll be paying $4 for gas!" I was loading some big stuff in his high-end pickup with fancy hard bed-cover.
"I guess I'd better hold my tongue", says I, "while I'm working." His little boy looked at me funny, but who can guess what transpires in such minds.
From all appearances, their hasty concrete injection method warmed up those clathrates and sent a giant burst of methane up the pipe, which found a spark in the motors or wherever, and blooey! — you are now >> here <<.
Another inneresting bit of Bush-era info is this piece from the NYT, Sept. 2008,
Sex, Drug Use and Graft Cited in Interior Department
Well worth the click to see the rest of this sorry tale.
I'm not sure why the links are disabled in the above post, but you can google the titles.
not only bugs, but if you could get the sound of the horn from the steamship in the background, that would round out the effect.
+10 points!!
What about bullfrogs and crickets? Loved that!
Also loved the random music & snippets of conversation in the background... all in all, the field trip was a refreshing change of pace. Loved the on location segments on the boat and in the chem lab. Loved seeing Rachel in her native attire.
Woldenberg Park, is beautiful at night. I was excited that she filmed on location in New Orleans, and not in a studio.
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr's Article in the Huffington Post "Sex, Lies and Oil Spills" sort of negates Brian William's idea that these people know what's best and would act responsibly. I was surprised that Rachel agreed with him.
"likes this"
A friend in Thailand tells me that Al Jazeera and other intl news is reporting that the deepwater horizons blowout was caused by a faulty second hand valve. Has anyone heard this?
I hope Rachel decides to take aim at the countless other front groups for the oil industry. For instance, the park along the Mississippi that Rachel decided to air her show from last night is owned by the Audubon Institute (a.k.a. Big Oil). The oil industry most certainly giveth and taketh away.
Ok the flies actually made me itchy watching it! Ick!
Rachael, I know this sounds nerdy, but I loved the glasses you wore yesterday. Where can I get a pair?
This is Just Not Right! This is WRONG! and here all along I thought that Bill Wolff was nice??? Poor Rachel had to Suffer through all them mosquitoes, this Just aint' right!
Dear Bill Wolff, I am Not Going to Watch your Vid Tweets for a While! If we are Rachel's True Friends, we Have to Stick up for Her!!!!
But, all I will say is, Politely & with a Southern Charm= Bless Your Sweet Lil' Heart!

Now on Crickets on Frogs= Holy Crap! The other night, after mopping with bleach in my apartment (for a job assignment), I came back at night and I saw a HUGE Bug on the floor. I totally FREAKED OUT, and it was a Crickett! After Spraying an Almost Entire Bottle of Windex (with Ammonia) and it Finally Died= It still Took me 30 minutes to get enough courage to pick it up with a paper towel!!!
And then this morning= My Dad found a HUGE Frog in his Bathroom! Where the Heck did this Frog Come From????
I told him, I don't think I would have been able to pick up that Huge Frog!!! I would have Totally Freaked!!!!
But Tonights Weather Forecast= Sunny & Humid, 20% Chance of Rain, and 90% Chance of Biting Mosquitoes!!!
Diana
I had a huge bee flying in my living room....and I am a huge wuss when it comes to bugs/spiders. Thankfully my not so smart cat hunted the bee and ate it. Gross but I was happy. What I sometimes use is hairspray. Once it dries their wings stick. Peta would not approve, but I'm okay with that.
Sorry to bum you out further as it is clear you're not a fan of the flying, crawling or indeed hopping creatures but I just have to tell you it is very bad luck to kill a cricket.
Crickets bring good luck to the entire family if they enter your home, and they do it for generations of your family not just the ones in the house. The chirping of a cricket brings good luck to all that hear but beware if the cricket suddenly stops chirping, danger is close by.
DianaB, your dad didn't kill the frog and fry the legs??? That's good eatin'. Fresh fried frogs' legs...ummmmm
Down here, we eat anything that doesn't eat us first. You'd love all of it as long as you don't know what it is you're eating.
I'm from the South, so I know all about the bugs. I bet Rachel was worried one would fly in her mouth on the air, lol.
Off topic:
I have to watch Rachel's show twice. Once for the the sapience and again so I can stare in awe at her without having to concentrate on the subject matter.
Very informative concerning the oil spill, by the way. Great job!
I was waiting for one to head up her nose!
@Magna Cum Laude -
OMG I do the same thing (watch TRMS twice) as you said. Fridays are hell. But I can view the podcast....
LOL! I watch three times M-Th and twice on Friday for the same reason; third time is the podcast, second on Fridays.
(Sorry for posting this here. AC360° comments were closed.) In re: the oil spill: "Heckofajob Brownie," Actually came on Anderson Cooper's show the other day. I hope people were listening and parsing the language because Anderson nailed him. "The Obama administration wants the oil to from the spill to do as much damage as possible." Evidence? No, more blah blah. "It's Obama's Katrina!" No, BP had assured everyone that they had the worst-case scenario covered. What happened shows that they were wrong but they were the only ones in a position to stop the spill. Lesson learned: No matter how much money anyone has to throw at disasters like this, no one knows enough or has control enough of the process of deep-water drilling to be certain they can handle the process safely. People talk about compensating the fishermen and cleaning up the spill. Just throw enough $$ taxpayer or BP's, at the disaster and everything will be just fine. I think we all know that's just bu*****t. In the US, we thing money is God but this disaster puts the lie to that blasphemy.
Rachel,
You fit into the lab environment so very well! Glasses are required, in fact. All you would have needed was a lab coat to keep the oil off your clothes. The bottoms of your jeans and your shoes still suffer because lab coats don't go down to the floor. I'm sure Ed could have put you to work right away prepping samples.
If you ever give up broadcasting, and decide not to go fishing full time, you might want to work in an analytical chem lab. It's a lot like mixology. You just can't drink it when you're done mixing it!
It would hone your drink-mixing skills as well, meaning you would learn to measure even more precisely, and it would take even longer for you to mix a drink...hence more hobby fun!
Rachel, I hope you made the one's who decided to set up in what is known world wide as 'mosquito capital of the planet' rub those bites with....what the hell helps mosquito bites? Gunpowder? I heard from someone that the state bird was the mosquito. But I guess you and thousands of others already had the thought, who the hell had this idea anyway? Slap..curse..slap...
I loved the show. Wish those that makes the decisions would listen..not just hear..and do the right thing!
I'm just saying...
Mosquito control tip
Mosquitoes don't fly well in a breeze. My parents had a gazebo with a tall roof and a big ceiling fan. It was impressive how few skeeters could fly through the upward breeze to get to you if the fan was on. I don't see any fans in your picture above.
For your next warm weather on-location filming, if you were to have strong fans off to each side of Rachel and then a couple of fans on "low" pointed directly at her, small bugs would be greatly deterred. The cooling effect of the breeze is a bonus!
Just a suggestion.
