Michael Steele emerged from Easter weekend still chairing the Republican National Committee. Steele's world went all upside down last week, with reports that the RNC had expensed a trip to a Los Angeles sexy club and filed liquor and clothing as "office expenses."
Today Steele told George Stephanolopous on Good Morning America that he won't be stepping down -- and that he has less room for error because of his race. "Barack Obama has a slimmer margin. A lot of folks do," Steele said. "It's a different role for me to play and others to play and that's just the reality of it. But you take that as part of the nature of it."
Steele's party, meanwhile, sounded less rah-rah about him. The second-ranked Republican senator, Jon Kyl of Arizona, hit a lukewarm note on Fox News Sunday when asked whether Steele should resign. "Well, I'm not in the position of the people who elect Michael Steele to either say he should step down or not....[T]his kind of thing has got to stop or they won't get any contributions."
On the House side, Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California, wouldn't say whether he has "full confidence" in Steele. From the Washington Post:
"[T]he RNC does have some challenges that they need to correct."

[Jaw Dropping as Steele wedges foot in mouth] What was Steele like before he became chair of RNC?
...and he pulls the race card...very interesting that his very appointment as the head of the RNC was designed to show a kinder, gentler and politically correct RNC. Yet his first CYA move is to say he gets less latitude because of the color of his skin....BARF!
I think this 'liquor store' thing is a total non-story. At worst it's a very minor mis-labeling in bookkeeping. They're not allowed to have booze in their office to entertain guests? Since when? It sounds like office supplies to me. Come on TRMS... I know there are better stories out there.
Just wondering why we have not heard anything on MSNBC about what the DNC is doing to raise money? Have they taken people to strip clubs or used the White House helicopters for donors? If they have gone to strip clubs or pole dancing clubs, where is the media reporting this?
Imagine that, I get fined for not purchasing health insurance yet the RNC gets away with spending donor's money to party. I say get rid of both the Democrats and the Republicans. Vote Independent or Libertarian.
